USS Intrepid Model 1/350 Scale

This is an incredible model! Gallery Models has put together a great package. This is the first Vietnam era Essex class carrier in 1/350 scale. The detail at this scale is such that one can build a model that impresses the viewer. This kit has a hefty price tag at around $220, but it is contains all the elements needed to build a superior model. There are four sprues of photo-etched brass parts for electronics, railings and elevator trim meaning no additional purchases of up detailing parts. The aircraft mix is decent with representations of all types embarked including 4 each F-8 Crusaders, A-4 Skyhawks, A1 Skyraiders, 4 Seasprtie helicopters and 2 E-1 Tracer AEW. A small gripe is that the planes that have folding wings do not come with separate wing parts so you will have to cut and position them, though the helicopters do come with folded or extended rotors. (Trumpeter spoils us). The most amazing perk is the detailed hangar deck. You will not have to scratch build one. The flight deck and hull are both one piece. I prefer the full upper hull and separate keel waterline (Trumpeter Nimitz and Kuznetsov) as it makes painting easier. If you have (or have seen) the Gallery LPD New York or the LHA Wasp, you will know the quality in a Gallery model. The level of competition has really helped quality at this scale. Airfix, Trumpeter and Gallery have made 1/350 the place to be for modern ship models without the resin kit costs. I hope they make kits of escorts from the era to compliment this great kit, and, of course, separate plane kits to fill the hanger and flight decks.

Very disappointed. The pieces were very tiny, there was no glue, paint, etc. I have returned it and awaiting refund so I can purchase the same model that is already assembled.
