The fascinating story of Liverpool's rise under Jurgen Klopp
As a Liverpool fan this topic is obviously absorbing to me. This is the best of the books that I've read on what happened to take Liverpool from the mediocre to the magnificent. It works on so many levels. It's a great story, it digs deeper into the data behind the story (the analysis of shooting from distance is quite revealing) and identifies connections that had passed me by when I was experiencing it first hand (e.g. the racist videos that surfaced about Mo Salah the week before he scored a wonder goal against the team whose fans had produced the videos). If this story has any meaning for you, you deserve to read the story this way.

A must-read for any Liverpool fan
Always great to go through our Champions league winning campaign in 18/19 in great detail and this book is just that. Statistical analysis coupled with a game by game account of practically the entire 18/19 season, this book simply encapsulates the wild ride that was our sixth CL win. Only half-way through the book and I'm thoroughly enjoying it!

Tompkins delivers again
Whether a good season or bad for The Reds, we can rely on Paul Tompkins' primo data backed literary analysis. Of course, it makes for better reading after a season like the last.

Must read for LFC fans
This is a tremendous analysis of the season just passed, 2018/19, as Tomkins critically assesses the strengths that key FSG personnel and Jurgen Klopp in their pursuit of on field success which culminated in the club winning their 6th Champions League in June. I was a bit of a doubter of the FSG approach and also wondered if the reliance of detailed data analysis of players was warranted having grown up in the glory years of the 70s and 80s when simple very competitive 6-aside games were what differentiated Liverpool from its competitors. But I now stand corrected having read this marvellous book. The insights of Mike Gordon & team (and what qualifications they possess) in analysing potential targets plus Klopp's brilliance in man management have created a winning formula. I love statistics so I was like a kid in a candy shop devouring all the information Tomkins provided. 120 sprints per game? Really, that's an important KPI? Who knew?I appreciated the comparison to the Rodgers reign and the difference in players purchased. Fascinating how few of Rodgers purchases are still at the club nor are they making huge inroads elsewhere. While the Gordon/Klopp purchases have really been a success to date. Here's to a few more seasons of winning silverware so long as we can outsmart Manchester City.

Must read for understanding of Liverpool resurgence
Paul Tomkins is a fanatical Liverpool fan and his book is a must for all those who wish to understand the resurgence of Liverpool in recent years. He combines a passion for the club with unique statistical analysis. He manages to combine being an insider with a detached view of the key people involved. The book flows very well and I read it in a week end.

Everything for a discerning football enthusiast, especially if of the LFC persuasion.
As ever, taking Jürgen Klopp's post-Barcelona description of his team as "f***ing mentality monsters" live on BT Sport as his title, Paul Tomkins provides a resumé and carefully-reasoned, evidential analysis of Liverpool FC's just-finished season and current state, and does so in an engaging and sometimes highly amusing style. "Cometh the hour, cometh the Origi" is one of my favourites.
