Lovely box, TERRIBLE power strip
First, the good stuff: the box is very nice looking. It feels sturdy and looks like it will be easy enough to clean. The drawer appears to have a magnetic closure of some kind to keep it from jarring loose, which hopefully isn't strong enough to affect any of the electronic equipment I'll be putting on it. The lack of dividers on the lower level and inside the drawer means I can FINALLY store my cell phone's car charger neatly; it was far too large for my previous charging station. Now, the bad: The power strip that comes with the unit is not merely horrible, but it's fastened to the bottom of the unit! I had to pry it out and replace it first thing, before the device was remotely usable. (Push the strip toward its on/off switch and then lift.) The strip has only five outlets (and the instructions say to only use three of them at a time... WHAT?), and they're arranged in such a way that most of the current types of cell phone chargers will overlap 1-2 other outlets when plugged in. Also, having it fastened to the base means you can't angle the strip to accommodate tall plugs -- and I have one -- which further limits your ability to use it. Terrible design! It has extra holes in the back to drop those problematic cords through and plug them into something else externally, but the whole POINT of these boxes is to keep the cords and plugs INSIDE. Someone didn't get that memo, apparently.Having replaced the strip with another, I've also found that the box is shallower than my previous charging station; in that box, I had two plugs that were "tall" in perpendicular directions to each other, but I had been able to angle the strip so that both could fit and the box could close fully. With this one, that isn't possible and one of the two items can no longer plug in. That isn't a HUGE deal because the item in question isn't critical, but it's still an annoyance. If you don't mind wrestling the strip out and replacing it, the box is very lovely. I'm keeping mine and definitely like how it looks on my desk. But if you want something you use straight out of the box, without fighting and modifying it, this probably isn't the charging station for you.

Pleasant surprise
There are many bad reviews for this valet. And the list of problems is big:* Smaller version shipped,* Flimsy plastic drawer,* Leather lining peeling off,* Unglued or broken glue joints,* Cellphone tray doesn't allow power connection on the side,* Power strips only allows two power adapters,* Power strip glued in place, making it very difficult to replace. After reading these reviews, I started looking for an alternative. But this is the only one I saw that had a drawer that would handle a checkbook or wallet [and not at triple the price].So when it arrived, I grabbed wood glue, wood clamps, contact cement, and opened the box...The one I received was nearly perfect in every respect!! It is just as pictured! All wood construction. No plastic drawer or peeling lining. No physical defects.I had no problem with plugging the power connection into the side of my cellphone. The power strip was mounted via special screws that match the keyhole mounts on its bottom. So to replace the power-strip, just slide and lift. The cellphone tray is on a hinge. Just lift the entire tray up to access the power strip connections. It even has a little lid support arm to keep it open, while you making connections. The drawer is just big enough for my wallet and checkbook. [a perfect fit]...So are there any problems?...Well yes,... the reviews were right about only having room to plug-in two AC adapters (since each adapter will cover two adjacent outlets).I also wanted to mention the packaging:Thick styrofoam mold protected the valet. That was inside of standard store type "display box".And that was inside of a very thick shipping box. [saying "Made in China" all over it]And since I purchased it from Amazon; they put that inside another box.(I wish my electronic items were packaged so nicely!)

Nice charging station
My unit doesn't match the picture as shown; instead of 3 phone-sized bays, there is one phone sized bay on the left and then a 2-phone wide bay on the right. The phone-sized bay is just large enough to hold an iPhone 5S with a bumper and its cord plugged in. The right bay isn't large enough for an iPad Mini, but it's reasonably close. There are many holes in the back of the box for running extra wires. You could run a USB line to a computer if you wanted to charge and sync in that way. The holes also keep heat from building up.Some reviewers note that the top will not close all the way when used with Apple's 5W USB Power Adapter, and I observed this also. The height of the powerstrip, adapter, and USB wire are just a little bit too high. The deck will rest against the USB cable, holding the deck open by a few millimeters. My solution was to tilt the power strip 90 degrees so the adapter + USB cable end lay flat. Now my deck closes again and all is well. I docked (heh) a star from an otherwise 5-star review. Some reviewers note that the box is poorly made, with defects in the staining, leather glue, screw adjustments, and so on. I didn't observe any of those complaints. My box is pretty much what I expected based on the description here.
