A space-saving, in-wall dryer vent box
If you're building a house or doing a remodel and want a well made, sturdy way to vent your dryer thru the wall while saving 4" of depth to your dryer footprint, this is the way to go!Our laundry room is not huge, so saving the extra 4" behind our dryer is kindof a big deal. There are lots of plastic boxes which work like this one but most are plastic and seem a little flimsy. This one however, is metal and sturdy, really adding to the quality of our build. It arrived promptly (several days sooner than Amazon estimated), so big props for that, and it arrived in excellent condition. Conclusion: If you're building or remodeling, this is a very good quality unit for routing your dryer vent thru the wall, while saving valuable space in the process. I highly recommend.

2x4 wall retrofit takes a little work but works well
Very Sturdy construction. I retrofit into a 2x4 wall. It was a bit tricky, no fault to the product, just retrofitting this takes a little work. First, it requires about 2 1/4" of the duct to penetrate into the box to leave room to attach the flex hose to the dryer. The new installs show this being mounted with the base in contact with the floor. In order to retrofit this, you need to cut the duct a little higher up to have enough clearance to get the box into place. I chose to minimize the impact to the drywall by tracing the profile of the back of the box and oversizing about 1/4" so the flange would sit on the outside of the drywall. If you hold the box on the floor like you would for a new construction install, you need to cut the duct flush with the top of the opening. This allows clearance for the box to be fit into the wall. Once the box is into the wall, you need to cut the drywall about 2 1/4" higher to make room for the duct to penetrate the top of the box. Using a prybar on the base of the box, I was able to lift it into place around the existing duct while using a flathead screw driver to wedge and deform the duct to fit the hole. This leaves you with the right penetration (~2 1/4") of the duct and a minimal size hole in the wall. This is where you see the value of the box being so sturdy. Now...what to do with the 2 1/4" gap at the bottom...fortunately, this is a standard window/door trim size. Cut a piece of that, a little caulk and you are in business. I used a 4" grinder with a cutoff wheel to cut the duct and a ball pin hammer to re-shape the portion of the duct that penetrated the box since it takes a little muscle and deformation to get it into the opening. The flange sits nicely over the existing 1/2" drywall. Not the best finish look but since it is so low and behind the dryer, you'll never see it. I painted it white and caulked the duct penetration into the box with fire caulk.

Easy install, could use a better profile.
It's a molded piece of metal that does its job very well. Once it's in you don't really have to think about it anymore. My removed star is because the shape ought to just be rectangular for easy drywall cutout. Why have two radiused corners??? Most rough-in boxes come with a trim piece tidy up the cut outs, and they expect you to caulk the seam which is kind of ridiculous. Square the edges and ship it with a trim and this thing could not be beat. But it's basically great.

Keeps dryer close to wall
I have used these multiple times for laundry rooms. Not only does it allow an easy clean install. It allows you to put dryer really close to wall if you mount it where dryer vent comes out of back of wall.
