I have been training BJJ for about 2 years, and I have decent collection of BJJ videos and books. I can honestly say that this is one of the best BJJ books that I have in my collection. I happened to discover the book because I recently joined a Carlson Gracie Academy in Central Florida, and as a newcomer to the school I wanted to get a better understanding of their style of BJJ. I overlooked the book prior to now for two reasons 1. The title, because, I am far from an expert, and 2. because I didn't understand who Carlson Gracie was. One of the things that makes this book so great is that the moves are depicted in a very clear and straight forward manner. The moves are basic, and don't appear to require incredible strength, speed or flexibility, to execute. Interstingly enough I have come to realize that the one thing that all the great BJJ experts have in common is a strong understanding of the fundamentals, and this book is great on fundamentals. As I was going through some of the moves in the book, I was thinking " man I was in that position so many times before, and that move was so simple and straight forward, why didnt I think of that?". On a completely different note you want to have this book in your BJJ library because it allows you to see the BJJ style that dominated the BJJ scene in the 70's, 80's and 90's in Brazil. So in Summary: great moves, great pictures, great history, great price (as far a BJJ books go this is a steal!), and authored by one of the greatest BJJ practioners of all time. I dont know what to tell you if you practice some other martial art, but if you do BJJ just click the "add to cart" button.

Master Carlson Gracie is no longer with us. He ...
Master Carlson Gracie is no longer with us. He was a family champion of the Gracie family. The eldest of his generation and the one who helped shape Jiu-jitsu for what it is today. Carlson Gracie had never been defeated during his lifetime. He influenced Rolls Gracie and helped develop his Jiu-jitsu. Rolls would in turn shape Rickson into who he would become. Carlson also taught in his Uncle Helio's school. Later on, because of differences, they would go their separate ways. What I'm trying to say is that this is the only resource available of Carlson Gracie's teachings in his own words. Of course, his son, Master Carlson Gracie Jr. teaches the art he learned from his father. Though this is the only available teaching left directly from the Grandmaster of Gracie Jiu-jitsu. He was the family champion for 20 years and advocated a warrior style of Jiu-jitsu very different from the style taught by his uncle, Grandmaster Helio. You cannot ignore the knowledge he has to offer.

Great book
I was recommended this book by my professor along with Jiu-Jitsu University by Saulo Ribeiro, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Theory and Technique (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu series) by Renzo and Royler Gracie, both of which you can find on amazon. Some of these techniques are taught in my classes others are not. I never met Carlson Gracie but I did a seminar with Julio Fernandez a few months back and the guy is amazing he lives and breaths Jiu-Jitsu. I would highly recommend to anyone to get this book. Great read and it had 3 different sections for gi techniques, no gi, and mma, so there is something there for everyone.

Solid techniques, indeed from the master
It's hard to argue that Carlson Gracie is a master - he's produced more champions in jiu jitsu and mixed martial arts then the next three or four top coaches combined. This is his first English language instruction manual, where you can see the master and his students executing numerous techniques. Sport jiu jitsu (with Gi), submission wrestling (No Gi) and self defense are all covered. While the material is not an encyclopedia of all the techniques out there, it is well organized and easy to follow for most any audience - even the non-experts.

Great Service - Book is OK
Great Service!Delivered in time (maybe earlier than expected) without problems. The book is OK, if you are an expert you will probably find a few techniques that you may have otherwise put in the back of your mind, so it's nice to have the refresher. It may be also helpful to freshen up if you are teaching classes.Otherwise, as a former student of Carlson, it was nice just to have his book in my collection.

OSS!
Here's a secret. It's not for experts only, it's for people who are willing to dedicate themselves to the sport. Tons of pictures and all of the techniques are super clear.

Wonderful resource
An excellent book from the master himself. The early Gracie books were by far the best.

Great BJJ Book
Solid book with great jiu-jitsu techniques. Would like to have read more of the history of BJJ, and obviously you need to practice BJJ with a partner to put the techniques into use. Would recommend for any active BJJ practitioner.
