Whitehead's Worst-Case Scenario: A Tough (Too Tough?) Look at How Free We Truly Are
Whitehead does an important service by compiling a single list of some of the worst assaults on Americans’ liberty under our nation’s century-long drift away from constitutional freedoms and toward a government-engineered state. But the book’s overarching emotional tone and Whitehead’s bludgeoning rhetorical approach of repeating himself make this a tough read.Recently on CSPAN radio, Whitehead came across as a winsome spokesman for the viewpoint that Americans must stand up to government – and not just the Feds – as it enacts laws and regulations that chip away at our liberty. He says the average American commits three crimes per day. It’s not because Americans have a criminal bent; but because bureaucrats have been at work constructing a dizzying maze of incomprehensible regulations. It’s an increasingly dangerous maze, he writes, because the police have much better hardware for watching, catching, and intimidating us when we run afoul.Credit Whitehead for showing that the “Liberty Movement” is anything but a white, conservative phenomenon. He takes us through the thought of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who he presents as a model libertarian. It would be wonderful for anyone who feels part of an oppressed minority in the U.S. to read Chapter 33 of this book. It’s a good window into the true story of one of the most important, oft-quoted and misunderstood figures of U.S. history. In the mid 1990s, Robert H. Bork described the ‘new liberalism’ that many of us would now equate with government overreach as “not a conspiracy, but a syndrome.” Bork’s point was that the powerful people who steer our nation’s institutions are many and are like-minded (being the grown up 1960s student protestors), but they are not necessarily operating an organized collaboration to usher in a common vision. Whitehead writes more darkly, apparently believing there is a conspiracy between government and mega-corporations to bully the masses into compliance with their agenda.Plan to examine the book’s footnotes. On CSPAN, Whitehead boasted about the meticulous documentation of his claims. When you read an example of police or government overreach that elicits a strong reaction, read and consider his source (the Kindle version makes it easy to click on the cited article and get more background). While some of Whitehead’s sources are solid, you might also detect him stretching the truth or significance of some of his citations as evidence that U.S. law enforcement is on the verge of becoming an army of occupation.Valuable nuggets of good information and thought throughout the book are offset by the author’s habitual extrapolations of the disturbing trends he sees into logical conclusions that represent the worst-possible scenario. For instance, he ends the books by warning that on our current course, the U.S. is turning into a Nazi-like state that is capable of justifying the extermination of a race of people as a matter of good public policy. Fair enough; he wants to awaken us into action. And, as Whitehead reminds, the Founding Fathers themselves remind us to cultivate a healthy mistrust of government. But perhaps the Liberty Movement could more easily gain steam without the undercurrent of near-paranoia that pokes through Whitehead’s work.

This was a good book.
I thought that this is a good book. Actually, I already know a lot of this stuff, but if you don't know, it can be scary, that America is a dangerous place, but not because of crime, because there is so many government agencies. People should know how many thousands of people want to destroy your life, there are people that want to put you in prison for nothing. The real criminal organizations are these agencies in Govt. Thank you.

WOW!
I originally was not sure what this book was about. But I then saw a few reviews from people I respect saying what a great book it is. They were right!!! This book covers so many aspects of what America is becoming and why. Primary of these is that America is become a militarized police state created by the Federal Government by giving/granting money and military equipment to local police departments. The local police in turn feel a need to use the equipment provided and oftentimes does so in direct violation of the U. S. Constitution. Unfortunately the courts have supported this mis-use through its decisions supporting the police. This does not mean local police are not to be supported and protected but local police should always follow the Constitution thus guaranteeing our individual rights and freedoms which you have to admit are eroding in favor of protection from terrorism. Also very well explained and defined is the move towards constant surveillance no matter where you go and what you do. The government has the ability and uses it when they are able to track our every movement, listen to our every conversation over a cell phone, even turn our cell phones on and off without our permission. It has also formed alliances with corporations to track what we buy and why. In fact there is nothing that our own government who is suppose to be working for us and protecting our privacy and freedoms can spy on - nothing. The question becomes what are we as a nation going to do about it. For the most part - apparently nothing as everyone goes about his or business without a concern in the world - WRONG ANSWER! I dare say that the government is monitoring this post as it is unfavorable to the government. More importantly, with every such post the government has more and more reason to mistrust me and put me like you on watchlists and then use those lists to advance their position whenever the need should arise. THIS IS A GREAT BOOK TO MAKE YOU THINK AND MAKE YOU MORE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS AND WHAT YOU DO. Whenever you think when you otherwise may not have, it is a very good thing.

This book is an eye opener!
Very well researched and documented. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is brave enough to look for truth in the cloud of lies permeating our world today.

POLICE STATE AMERICA, UK AND ISRAEL
Really good book with lots of detailed examples of how the above countries have morphed into full blown autocratic police states over the past 50 years or so. A must read for every citizen. It's past time for physical revolt - nothing less will do to save the future of mankind from total enslavement by neocon zionists
