Hebrews (The Crossway Classic Commentaries)

Excellent
I thoroughly appreciate the Puritan authors and Owen is at the top of the list in my opinion. Although this has to be an extreme condensed work since the original is an overwhelmingly large work, it does a good job of getting across main points and keeping the style of Owen. Hebrews is my favorite book of the Bible and I am enjoying the precepts of Owen. I like his clarity of thought and concise style. He is dedicated to bringing glory to Christ.

Owen made simple. deep
Very easy to read commentary, Owen had an amazing view of the Lord and His ways, explaining in an easy way God's attributes, election, with an accurate Biblical perspective. This commentaries series put the wisdom of great men of God available for our times. Don't think that modern commentaries are better just because they are written today, God does not change, and Calvin, Luther, Owen, Ryle, Henry and the likes were men of God who showed great zeal and knowledge on Scripture. It truly gives a fresh view of the Lord high and lifted up in each passage. Highly reccomended.

Brief but Impressive
This is a great yet brief commentary on the Book of Hebrews. It is less than 300 pages and consolidates what is written in a seven volume set, and each volume is 600 pages. Needless to say, it must be brief. There is much that is missed. The entire Crossway Classic Commentary set is like that. Of course, I wish it went into more detail but since it is a survey and so short it cannot do everything. I enjoyed that it kept much of the original language. It does not try to modernize or downplay Owen's errors (such as saying that Paul wrote Hebrews). I am very thankful for this tiny volume.

Very Useful
Owen is hard to read, but this commentary is very useful. His viewpoint and arguments are unique among the other commentaries. Owen has a way phrasing that makes the verses of Hebrews applicable. His high view of Scripture and the sovereignty of God is unmatched. Packer and McGrath do a worthy job of converting this massive commentary into one short volume, but there is a price. Many short passages are skipped. This volume makes me want to buy the full set. However, if you are not a pastor or a seminarian, this commentary has many nuggets and insights for the student of the book of Hebrews.
