Dr. Kate, Angel on Snowshoes is an engaging, inspiring true story. The book contains many details and anecdotes to make readers feel like they are there and bring the story to life. The book also has many wonderful photographs from Dr. Kate's life. As a reader, I felt I was right there beside Kate striving against the odds to reach her dream of becoming a doctor. And when she did, I was amazed by her dedication--and the support of her community in the northwoods of Wisconsin. A wonderful story of a life containing much sadness, but even more hope. At the back of the book are discussion questions, activities, a timeline, etc. to extend the experience of the book.

This book is a 72-page sketchy biography written for Elementary school readers complete with Glossary of many wordsin darker print in the text. I purchased this unknowingly intending to read this as an Adult book-club selection. A more honestdescription of this book should have been offered by the seller. A $50 hardcover was the only other offer on this site--a littlesteep for a casual read.

Ich habe vor Jahren die Biographie von "Dr. Kate" von Adele Comandini in deutscher Übersetzung gelesen und freute mich, als ich diese preiswerte Kindle-Fassung im englischen Original fand. Leider ist es nur eine stark gekürzte Version für Jugendliche, die absolut NICHTS Neues bringt und sich anscheinend sehr auf die Comandini-Biographie stützt. Immerhin sind die enthaltenen Fotos eine nette Bereicherung.Mit einer entsprechenden Notiz (Jugendversion o. Ä.) in der Beschreibung hätte ich dieses Buch jedoch gar nicht erst gekauft. Insgesamt enttäuschend, wenn man die Vorlage kennt.
