Scala Men's Panama Outback with Leather Trim

I just received this hat in the Natural style that has the black leather trim band (actually, it is dark brown, but it looks black in the product photo on this site), not the braided brown leather. The hat is a very pale cream color, which I like. However, the black trim band is slightly ragged on the top edge, and this makes the hat look sloppy. I suspect that the band was not cut properly and/or was cut with a dull cutting instrument. I have a collection of bands of different styles that I can place over this ragged one, but I would prefer not have to do that. As for fit, it fits as expected, that is, it is slightly too big for me. My hat size is right between large and extra large, and since it is easier to reduce the size of a "too large hat" by adding a filler inside the sweat band than it is to stretch out a "too small hat," I deliberately ordered the extra large. Fortunately, the hat came packed with a protective cardboard ring around the outside of the crown, which I trimmed and inserted in the sweat band. After several trims and tries, the hat came to fit just fine. I have thought about using door or window double stick foam insulation inside hat bands to reduce size, but for now, the cardboard is working fine. I think this hat is pretty good, just not perfect.

I bought 3 of these gorgeous hats for my fathers birthday and whomever packaged them has no common sense. They look like they were stomped on to fit into the box.

The hat was shipped in a box that was about an inch too narrow, which caused the brim to be permanently bent on the right side. I didn't have time to wait for an exchange, so I had to deal with it. Despite researching the size guidlines from Amazon and Scala, the hat was still too big. For the price I paid, it is a decent hat, but a bit flimsy and there are spots where the weave is uneven and a lighter color than the rest of the house.

The quality, workmanship and appearance are all fantastic! I could have paid three times the purchase price, yet still felt like I got my money's worth!

The hat is really well made, and it has a quality look. There is a nice liner on the inside in the top of the hat. It was well protected in a good shipping box. It's probably better than a lot of the more expensive Panama hats sold by other retailers.

Very nice hat, fits like a glove. Unfortunately, it arrived in an undersized box and sustained some minor damage. The hat had been stuffed in the box at an angle and with little to no padding. For the price point, this should not be the case. I would probably recommend the seller if they took better precautions to avoid damage next time, perhaps a larger box for starters.
