Genny is left to face a Naples once again on the brink of fighting and bloodshed. With Sangue Blu taking back his grandfather s kingdom and the Capaccio crew making their moves on the Secondigliano turf, Genny s sole remaining option is to bring in a new player: the Levante family. For a while, their involvement gives Genny a newfound balance on the map of gangland power, and as he starts to shed his old criminal past behind, he dreams of setting up a life for his son entirely different to the one his father left him.But it s never as easy as it seems to get away from your roots. As the truce between the crime families becomes increasingly frail, Genny is about to learn why his father decided to keep the Levante family out of North Naples, and to find out just how fragile a newfound balance of power can be.

Different
Not really sure if I'm honest. I was glued to the first three series. It's good but different. Just as violent and story line a bit confusing. Will probably end up watching it all over again

Superb.
Gritty, brutal, dark, disturbing, and difficult to follow at times but it's everything a gangster series should be it's very excellent in my opinion. 👍

Game of thrones Camorra style
The fourth series of Gomorrah, deals with events after the killing of Ciro by Gennaro, and his decision to hand over the Savastano Napoli empire to Patrizia. For those who have not seen the first three series, Gomorrah makes no attempt at all to be PC - the first series saw 150 killings. The killings are all sudden, brutal, and there is no hint of a fair fight. The two styles of killing are ambushes in enclosed spaces (including road underpasses) and personal executions of the unarmed by the armed. While women play a role in this violence, there is no pretence that a Camorra woman can govern for very long. On the other hand it is pretty difficult for a man to govern very long as well. The series is filmed in Scampia, by all accounts a poor part of Naples and it seems a perfect environment for assassinations, ambushes and illicit trade. It seems to be a maze of empty buildings and narrow allies. The most important weapon in the Camorra arsenal is not guns, but the scooter - the scooter gets you to your guns, your drugs, and gets you away very quickly from whatever mayhem you have caused. By and large the Camorra do not carry guns but have them stashed in safe locations - with the result that if you can get to a rival gangs guns (which of course requires a traitor in that gang), you get to their guns before they do and then you win.Despite the death toll the key to each series of Gomorrah is not the mayhem but the plotting. Very quickly you realise when you see a car on a road you may be seeing the first car in an entourage, or a simple journey from A to B, or on occasion an assassination. When a second car appears - it could be following, or it could be the entourage or you might be about to witness a killing. If two scooters appear - is it an escort or are they following or will there be a drive by shooting? All of this conveys exactly how paranoid a Camorra boss will be and exactly how crafty he or she has to be to survive.Despite this however there are some rules - not everyone can be a Camorra boss - you have, like Gennaro to belong to one of their aristocracy - for this reason neither Ciro (whose parentage is not stated, but was clearly not Camorra) or Valerio, (a yuppie who wants to be a gangster) or Patrizia (who belongs to a lower order of Camorra clan) can govern - but Gennaro can. As the son of Don Pietro he can command respect beyond his ability as a gang leader, as of course can Blue Blood, whose family plays or has played a similar role in Focella to that of Gennaro in Secondigliano. In previous series Gennaro has already facilitated the murder of his father by Ciro, and personally killed Ciro. In this series he kills a considerable number of his mother, Imma's family. Gennaro's other trump card is that almost all the way through the four series he has had the access to the drugs that power the Camorra. No matter how much he is hated he is needed. In one sense the series represents the Camorra as small scale - more of a symptom that the root cause of Naples problems. The real power brokers are those who control the drug trade, whether from central America, Spain, or from Rome, and many of these have a respectable front. This series focusses upon Gennaro's attempts to move from gangland to respectability - and interestingly though he has power and money he is never accepted as someone to invite to a coffee morning or a charitable event. He is forever tainted by his family name.My only real reservation is that some of the plot twists are unlikely and that having constructed this atmosphere of duplicity and distrust some the the gang leaders behave with incredible naivety - in an earlier series Salvatore invites two people to help him kill Ciro: two people who he knows have plotted with Ciro to kill him - and Salvatore is alone; Don Pietro goes into his family mausoleum alone, in an otherwise empty graveyard. In this series - in a desperate situation Patrizia seeks witness protection which she must know is signing her death warrant, and then willingly escapes into Camorra hands. Overall however I have enjoyed watching the four series. The series derives from a book about the Camorra, which I think was later turned into a film and the posthumous Ciro has his own spin-off, the Immortal, which I presume must be a prequal.

Top crime series
First rate Italian crime series. Far superior to anything the UK can offer. The French had Spiral and Braquo. The Scandinavians have The Bridge and others.
