Excellent addition to the gear cache
I'm so happy I bought this along with my new bear box! My pack actually has a compartment for a bear box (it's a sleeping bag compartment that just happens to fit a bulky bear box perfectly). Most packs, however, have no such luxury. This case allows you to strap on the bear box externally for easy access when stopping for lunch/snacks/etc. It also has the added bonus of being BRIGHT ORANGE, so if you drink a little too much the night before and forget where you put your bear box, it's hard to miss.I've never bothered tying my bear box into a tree, but you could do that with your box if you have this case. Really though, tying your bear box into a tree is completely unnecessary and a lot more work than it's worth.

Very, very cheap and flimsy. Didn't survive a two day hike.

It's nice and it fits my previously bought bear container. I haven't tried to carry it attached to my back pack yet. I'm not good with adjustable strips so I gave only 4 stars for leaving some reserve to the best review after using it.

It worked great with the bear box
This is meant to be used with the Frontiersman Bear Box as a carrying case not a standalone bear box. It worked great with the bear box. Its a very bright color so it was easy to spot in the morning. I'd recommend it if you'r using it with the bear box its intended for.

The bear canister on its own has nothing to help ...
The bear canister on its own has nothing to help keep it strapped to your back, so this certainly helps, however the main benefit is in the loops sewn onto the case. The plastic bracket on one of the provided straps broke very early on for me, but I just used the bottom straps on my pack to fasten it on.

It's orange!
I love orange, and the bears really appreciate the soft fabric. This cover gives them a sort of consolation prize once they realize that they are not getting any food out of my bear safe!

It's nice, but not a necessity
Just to be clear, this bag is NOT bear proof as is. It's only bear proof if you hang it on a bear pole, or in a tree, or if you buy the barrel that goes with it. I used this bag alone while camping in Canada. The many straps make it easy to hang in a tree and the orange color makes it very easy to find in the woods. It was big enough to hold all of our food and other scented items. If you aren't going to buy the barrel, save your money. A dry sack or sleeping bag stuff sack would work to hang your food while camping.

Material too flimsy for legitimate backpacking, straps tear off under load, zipper broke on second trip

Misleading advertisement
Advertisement is misleading. This is just a bag. It’s not puncture proof or scent proof or bear proof. It is simply for carrying a bear vault which is sold separately.
