Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened / Game

The beauty: This game has wonderful atmosphere; the water effects are stunning; the actors are good; the story is interestingThe beast: it is so linear it hurts; you can't go ahead and pick up something you know you are going to need; once I typed an answer using the spelling in the clues and it wasn't acceptedI don't mind spending a lot of time solving puzzles; but I do mind spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to tell the game what I want to do. Not that this is new. It was the same in the old text adventures where you were in a maze of twisty passages all alike. Deja vu.

This was a lot of fun ( and enough of a challenge )to play this game. It's not the type that you'd want to re-play - at least not for quite a while. There is no way you could play this game without a "walkthrough" which can be downloaded through some googling effort. The puzzles are far too obtuse to be solved intuitively. Even with the "walkthrough", a certain degree of intelligence is required. The main thing that the buyer should know, and be "OK" with, is that this version is the original version (not the RE-MASTERED version) and hence is not equipped with the built-in help and clue system. That is why, of course, this item was so cheap. Overall, well worth the money, and highly recommended.

I bought this game and installed it on my computer (Vista) that usually has no problems running games. However, the game refused to run, it did not even contained the exe file. Downloaded the patch. Did not help. This time the stupid game could not recognize CD in the drive. That is not the first time, by the way, that Frogware games did not install properly. I could never run Silver Earring on my computer either because of the drivers issues. Looked at the cover. In the tiniest font possible it stated that the game will not work with "old" or Intel graphics cards, which work perfectly well for any other game. Overall, very disappointed.I did not like Nemesis at all but rather liked Jack the Ripper and hoped the Awakened would be more of the same sort. But it seems I just wasted my money. Games with such sloppy design should not be allowed on the market.

I was ready to award 4 or even 5 stars to awakened half way through but the horrendous finale which doesnt tie up things at all forced me to cut the game`s rating. Too bad, its first half has an excellent atmosphere and overall the puzzles make sense 80% of the time. The story was good, ambiences obviously well thought. Died the death of a 100 adventure games I guess...

This is an incredible game; however, be forewarned, it has a disturbing Lovecraft theme with plenty of gore. This particular game only plays in First Person, which I cannot deal with due to inner ear problems. It was disappointing that this information was not provided before I purchased it. This is not the fault of the seller but the fault of the game developers who did not put that information on the package. I did manage to find a copy elsewhere that allowed you to switch between first and third-person play. If you like Sherlock Holmes and intense storylines, then I highly recommend this game. I also recommend this seller; the game arrived in just three days.

Rec'd quickly in the mail in a secure package however haven't been able to check it out on my computer so cannot comment on whether it works or not. Purchased 5 different computer games from Amazon that are Windows XP compatable. Had no problems with 3 of them. This game & Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened would not dowload or open up at all. Tried on several different computers. Contacted Amazon & am returning to them for refund. Thank you Amazon..

Awful. Very old software. In todays age software makers should not be selling games that are not up to date.
