Peppercorn, Black Whole-2Lb-Malabar Variety Black Pepper

Wonderful aroma & taste! I will never buy any other brand/type of pepper again. It brings your cooking to the next level. We have been using this item for 10 years plus.

As I said in the header, the peppercorns were nicely packaged (2 resealable bags), they got to me early and the product is fresh and spicy. Malabar pepper is spicier (hotter) than Tellecherry pepper but has a similar flavor profile. It's like Tellecherry on steroids. I have already recommended it to friends and have given some as gifts.

Purchased 2lb package in July, kept in original packaging inside my own airtight container in cool pantry until I needed it today Oct. 26, 2015. I make all my own spice rubs and use a lot of Malabar black pepper that I grind in my own spice grinder. When I opened the package, there was no pepper smell at all, it was odorless, no fragrance at all. I ground it because I needed to make a large batch of rub as I had completely run out. Even after grinding, the pepper was almost odorless and tasteless. More like old out of date Tellicherry, than anything, certainly not the rich flavorful aroma of good high quality Malabar you'd expect. I also checked the package, nowhere on the label was there any indication of "Malabar", only black peppercorn was listed, so I guess I could have been sent generic, but I don't know. All I do know for sure is I know what good quality Malabar pepper tastes and smells like, and this wasn't it. My old brand cost more, but was light years better smelling and tasting. Guess I learned my lesson the hard way.
