This Thing is LEGIT. Revolutionary. Best pillow ever. Creates legroom and allows sleep during meal service and takeoff.
I travel 7-8 month a year. Many flights. I have seen this in SkyMall many times and laughed because that guy looks ridiculous. But I bought this pillow to give it a shot, along with 3 others, the J shaped pillow, the one with the tube across your chest, and an inflatable neck pillow by Lewis and Clark. This is the best pillow ever for airplanes, especially if you're tall. The other ones just support your neck, and to be comfy and sleep you need to lean back in your chair and kinda slouch if you have legroom. With this pillow, YOUR DONT EVEN NEED A LOT OF LEG ROOM. That's amazing. That's the biggest problem with economy seats these days. Less and less legroom. I'm 6'4". Slouching isn't going to work. I can barely sit up comfortably, much less sleep without my legs in the back of the next seat. With this pillow, you learn forward, so your rear naturally pushes backward into the seat and your knees come back with it. No more extra leg room necessary. In fact, you kinda DON'T want an exit row or bulkhead seat with the extra legroom because its nice to have something to lean this pillow against. Life changing. And just as important for uninterrupted sleep, you don't even need to recline your chair to use this, so when they serve meals and take off and land, you just get to keep on sleeping.Full disclosure, I have only used this pillow three times. Once on my couch to test it out and decide to keep it, and two long flights to/from Hong Kong. The flight there I had a bulkhead seat with lots of legroom. Worked pretty well. My travelmates were exhausted, and I slept fine. On the way back I had a regular sardine seat, and I could lean this thing against it. I slept even better. Easiest flight I've ever had. And that's after hundreds of flights. And did I mention I'm 6'4"?This thing is legit. It looks a little unusual and I expected some stares, but really nobody cared. And I don't care because it's worth it.BTW, the J pillow didn't work for me at all. Too thin. The one with the rod across my chest was okay, but surprisingly more awkward than this one because it's strapped to your chest, and it had the same problem where you have to kinda slouch and lean your chair back to sleep like normal. The Lewis and Clark inflatable was the best neck pillow. I brought it too, but just used it to supplement this one. If you're tall, you might need some more on top of this pillow, but if you can get about 2 airline pillows or an inflatable neck pillow, it's good for 6'4" guys like me.Also, if there is ever a crash, this thing is like having an air bag already deployed in front of you. I was seriously thinking this pillow should be standard issue for every seat.

Well-made but not as comfortable as I had hoped
I admit, I felt like a fool using this on an airplane. I fly internationally frequently, and I was desperate for a comfortable way to sleep. This pillow is well-made, but it wasn't as comfortable as I had hoped. It doesn't take up much space when deflated, about the size of a book or tablet. It takes quite a bit of breath to fill up, which probably made me feel the most foolish. The directions recommend using an air vent to inflate, but I never tried this. I usually sit on the aisle, so I'd have to invade the middle seat to reach the vent. When inflated, this thing is large! Bigger than my backpack. I am only 5'3", so it was much too high when I inflated it all the way. If I deflated it slightly, it worked much better. The pouch in the back is perfect for your hands - this element was designed well. However, I had to hunch over to get my weight on the pillow, otherwise I'd just roll back against my seat. This hunched over position was very uncomfortable and hurt my back. I was never able to use it as designed for this reason. I'd just squash it up and use like a regular pillow. It's not a total flop, but it's not a magical sleeping solution either.

MUST HAVE for a stomach sleeper on a long flight!!
So, be warned that this is the largest most obnoxious inflatable pillow I've ever owned and I definitely got some stares taking this out and blowing it up...but I'll be damned if it didn't work!! I bought this specifically for a trip to China. I've done a lot of international travel and don't sleep the greatest on planes, but with a 15 hour flight I did not want to leave it to chance or over medicate myself, so I did a TON of research and ended up buying this. Yes, it's big, it's heavier and bulkier than most inflatable travel pillows and people might stare at you while you blow it up, but for a stomach sleeper on a 15 hour flight, this thing saved my LIFE!! No seriously. I'm a 5'7", 135lb female and it was the perfect height/fit for me, both on my lap and on the tray table. I can't imagine it would work well for a big guy with a gut, but you really don't have to bend over very far to lay your head on it if you're close to my height and it is actually really comfortable! I slept on it for hours!! That is unheard of for me on a plane. I also really like the pocket for your hands in the back. That was handy as well.A couple things to note, this thing smells right out of the package, so I aired it out both indoors and out for several days in advance. Also, I LOATHE the feel of crushed velvet on my skin, so I sewed a custom pillowcase for this thing out of an old soft sheet I had (basically just a square sack with a draw string - I'm no Martha Stewart) and that was the answer. Not only did it feel nice and soft on the plane but it smelled like my bed at home instead of chemicals and plastic. Another thing that helped was taking an extra airplane blanket and placing it (still folded up) over the top of this pillow (under my pillowcase). That made it a lot softer and I couldn't hear and feel myself breathing in and out after that. It took me about 10 full breaths to fully inflate, and it's easy to blow up because it has a valve that keeps the air in after you stop blowing. You can also use the AC vent to blow it up.Yes, this might be a bit of a higher maintenance travel pillow, but for a really long flight or car trip, IT WORKS. People were jealous of me by the end of that trip. The pillow has now come with me on a couple other international flights as well (Thailand, Tokyo, Germany and The Netherlands). As long as you have appropriate expectations for what it is and what it isn't, you won't be disappointed.About the pictures: Don't mind the little white strings, those are from my "pillowcase".And for the record, I did NOT receive this product free or at a discount. I paid full price for it and am writing this review just to help other people who pay full price for stuff too!

A + no regrets
this thing's awesome! brought a pillow case for it after reading reviews here (made sense, it is plastic after all) and it was too small so just folded it in half and used it like a sheet over the flat bit. A +. Slept well, the little pocket at the back is perfect for your hands, and i have to tell you that the airline attendants all asked me about it when we deboarded, "because you looked so comfortable!" Wasn't sure about spending so much on an inflatable plastic pillow, but it was totally worth it to land feeling fresh and rested instead of like living death. No regrets!

super!
