A Comprehensive Guide for SAR and Law Enforcement
The best way I can describe this book is with the quote, "Why Reinvent the Wheel?" Decades of experience and knowledge were poured into this clear, factual manual. Aspiring and current dog handlers and law enforcement agencies should have this resource at their fingertips. As a former federal law enforcement dog handler, I often receive calls from local law enforcement, asking if the use of cadaver dogs is appropriate in their specific situation. I am also called after searches which used local K9 teams, when the agencies question if the dogs were "good" and if they had actually "cleared" the area. With this manual, law enforcement can now understand K9 team capabilities. Obviously, the author took extensive notes throughout her career and now K9 teams can immerse in the knowledge of an extremely respected handler. I wish the book was written 20 years ago because the information would have quickly bridged my experience gaps. The author did not fill the pages with "cute dog stories". She did not showboat her career with case names and details. Instead, this book is filled with facts and field experiences which will benefit handlers and law enforcement for years to come.

GREAT BOOK
This book will answer many questions about Search and Rescue that prospective or new members may have and will remind others why we joined SAR in the first place. If you want to know the Who, Where, Why and How of SAR then this book is the place to start. Vi has written a great book.

Disappointing
The book does not live up to its title- it spends too much time on the basics and the other material is, in many places, not backed by modern research nor properly cited. Also, the snarkiness is unprofessional.
