YES!!
SO GOOD- I would think he'd run out of interesting ways for sharks to eat people, but nope, lol. I adore these books and this author- I've read a lot of his work and I've never been disappointed. He keeps me fully engaged and riveted to the story and really rooting for (or against) characters that are well built out and creates a sense of reality that I very much enjoy. I can't say that I'll ever tire of these books or this author- he is for me right up there with the great Stephen King. I'm an avid reader, devouring several books, sometimes a few at the same time- and this book really took over my devoted reading times and then some.

More imaginative sequel to book 1
The sheer scale of the sequel is more ambitious than The Meg, book 1 of the series. While Angel broke away from the lagoon, a chase would ensue and so I expected the hero of the book might very well kill the big fish as he declared. Such declaration would only be valid when he did the deed. So Jonas chased the fish across oceans and failed in his many attempts. But ironically (and surprisingly for me), it was his angel of death that saved his ass.Just as I thought half through the book and expected the author to give more dragging moments of blind chase, there came the murderous Celeste who got rid of the hideous Singer and so "propelled" the story to move on. With the information of the CIA director, the story finally unfurled further: the military used Jonas and his family to get Singer.I appreciated the twist very much. The explanation from the CIA director solves the mystery of why Jonas was sent to explore the trench a long time ago and by doing so, provides an answer and motive as to why Singer bailed out Masao's company with credulity.Having said that, the minor flaw lies in some narration where more watchfulness and logicality are needed. In the republished edition of book 1, he managed to revise the story 3 times to make it better; the sequel is in need of such effort.

Even Better Than the First Book
While the first book had its flaws, it was largely a fast paced and satisfying (with regard to the science and shark attacks) story. There were some issues for me with the writing and descriptions of the characters, and the incessant need to discuss breast size, particularly in the early chapters, was annoying. However, for all the flaws that were present in The Meg, The Trench actually improves upon. It doesn't simply mimic the first story. It maintains the elements that were fascinating from the first and strengthens the overall character arcs and motivations while also adding new elements.I would add that there is an attempted rape in here that gets described briefly but vividly. I had mixed feelings about how it was handled, but all in all, I still think that the story was handled well enough to compensate.

The downward slide of the series
This book began the downward slide of the series.Although one would think the second book in a series about a Megalodon would be about Megalodon's this book is more a light spy thriller. The shark is there but it' more about the Big Bad Guy doing Bad Things.Singer is a villain more in line with something from a Bond film. His sidekick, Celeste, is the femme fatale stereotype. The reasons these villains are here is become of some obscure reasons. The Institute got sued over the Meg killing people in the previous book, but lost every suit and couldn't appeal... Because Reasons. This lead to Masao Tanaka to sell to Singer.Jonas continues his trend of becoming less likeable. Despite EVERYONE telling Jonas Celeste is bad news, is just using him, etc Jonas STILL strikes up a friendship with her. Even us the readers are privy to the fact she is using him but Jonas is oblivious because... all he cares about is The Meg. He does nothing to try and save his new marriage until the very end when he saves his wife's life. So apparently that's all it takes to resolve all marital issues?I still found the parts told from the shark's perspective to be the most enjoyable.

An absolutely amazing read
With the movie, The Meg, soon to be released in theaters, I decided to read this next novel in line. Prepare to be amazed. Angel is back and just as mean as ever. Bodies will be flying everywhere and you’ll find yourself skimming pages so fast you’ll have to go back to reread the text to make sure you caught everything. I hope this will become the sequel to the new movie.

Re-release?
I saw this book listed as a pre-purchase and I was delighted. I love the Meg books, they're great thrillers and have endless plot twists. But when the book was delivered to my kindle, well, I started reading and I'd already read it! I returned it, of course. Unless there was a change at the end, this book is not new. Having said that, The Trench itself, is a great read. Just check your library if you're a Meg fan!

Not as much fun as the original. Overall, a joyless book.
Overall, I wanted more shark chomping, and less rape.More sea monsters, less psychological torture of the only positive female character in the whole book.Basically, it's too long, too inconsistent, and too sexual assaulty to be any real fun. And that's my biggest complaint: the book simply wasn't as fun as the first book.We don't really care about much in a monster flick besides a great time, and this book doesn't ever get there.

What you would expect, but better than the movie
Yes, I had never heard of the series before the movie. Yes, I enjoyed the movie as simple entertainment. The movie was not as good as Jaws (what shark movie has been), but I have found the books better than the movie. The series is entertaining and I plan to finish them. This book was a nice progression of the series and entertaining.

Angel delight !!!
I am fascinated by the carcharadon megalodon species that existed around 100,000 years ago or died off then anyways. Haha. I read book one A Novel Of Deep Terror and thought it was immensely intense I never put it down and chomped my way through the 500 odd page book but coming to this even though it wasn't bad it just was sometimes over the top and got really samey whenever the shark attacked and as for characters they weren't given deep enough backgrounds. It just got corny for me in my opinion as having a 72ft prehistoric shark going on a killing rampage would be easily stopped straight away in this day and age by a 50 calibre machine gun just saying. Haha. Please read if you enjoyed the first.

Jaws on roids
I read this book as a teenager whilst on holiday and couldn't put it down. When they announced a film version of The Meg, I decided to start the series from the beginning (currently 3 books in) and loving them. Really OTT in parts and unbelievable at times but it's what makes them so enjoyable.

What a Follow-Up!
Second stories (or sequels, if you like) are often a tough thing to get right. Can the second installment of a beloved film or book recapture the magic of the first, and still be fresh? And stand on its own if you don't know the first? Will it be an Empire Strikes Back or a Sting II?Fortunately, Steve Alten's second outing in Meg's waters does everything right. You get more of what was brilliant about the first book - the characters, the little marine biology lessons, the spectacular set-pieces of shark-on-human action - as well as a general upping of stakes across the board - as well as some exciting new ideas and concepts, some of which survive to take their place in the Meg universe, and some of which are devoured by the queen of the seas by book's end.If you thought the first book was a nice idea that had run its course after 400-odd pages, think again. The Trench still has some (very large) surprises for you...

Very Good
After reading and enjoying Meg-Origins and Meg-Novel of Deep Terror I had to wait months for The Trench to come out on Kindle format, I even harrassed the author :)The wait was worthwhile and another great book in the Meg series. The conclusion to the story at the end was jaw dropping.I now have to badger the author again to get Meg-Primal Waters on Kindle before I read Meg-Hells Aquarium whis IS on Kindle.Good Read....

A big bite of a read!
If you have read the previous books then you will like this one, as it adds to the pace of the story! All the books follow on one after the other. You feel for the main characters of the story and what they are going through. You can't but not like the baddie of the book either it certainly adds to it. As well as reading about the Mariana Trench and the depth of the ocean itself. Another good read.

Love it!!
I've become a huge Meg fan recently, especially because the author really knows his stuff before he puts pen to paper like submarines and boats, deep sea trench layout, aquarium setup, certain landmarks etc but most important of all if your a big shark fan like me, even though the book's entirely fictional, he's got all the correct biology about the shark in there too. I love these book and can't wait for the next one :D

Unforgettable
With a book like 'Meg' I am always doubtful as to how good a sequel is going to be but this knocked my socks off! The way Alten writes is so easy to follow, even when you're technically having a science lesson, he makes it interesting and easy to understand. Fast-paced and full of blood and gore, a book to keep you on your toes. I love the suspense created during Terry's accounts and the way he so accurately writes from the perspective of a woman. Well done!
