This is a pretty decent book but I'm subtracting a star because the illustrations are fuzzy. This is a cheap book that is an excellent choice for the apprentice, student, or even electrical technician that wants to learn the basics of VFD's.I keep it at work so in the event of a failure I can run through the checklist in the troubleshooting section.

Not the best written but does the job. Learned what I wanted.
Lots of people are using VFDs to power three phase motors from single phase power. Lots of discussions on the web about people doing this. Not a lot of explanation. This book fills the void. After reading the book I know enough to choose a VFD and how to wire it up. Mission accomplished. Not the best written but that's OK. So long as it does the job.

Great book
Great book for someone with little knowledge of VFD's. I recently went from being a field electrician to working as a maintenance electrician in a very large facility. I will be getting trained on drive maintenance and I wanted to get some theory and basics down befor I start. I showed the book to our electrician who does all the drive work, he has 20 years experience with drives, and he even thought it was a well written book.

Great book
I enjoyed the book. Well thought out and laid out. The trouble shooting section I found to be very useful.

Very informative and useful for electrical personnel in all industries of engineering, furthermore also can be used by engineering students for practical applications

Not enough details
Too basic. I agree with all Jay said. Download the user manual for your drive and you will have more information that is pertinent. The book is only 66 pages and half of that is a very lite attempt at electric theory. It is also five years old today’s technology is a light year ahead of then. I can not believe that any industrial installation would not have a spare unit to replace a failed device. His troubleshooting method of randomly testing components is not what a experienced technician would.

I wouldn't even recommend for someone who had absolutely no experience with vfd's
There is less information (much less) than there is in the manufacturers manual for the drive. This is a very basic overview of what drives do with some basic info on some of the parameters within. I wouldn't even recommend for someone who had absolutely no experience with vfd's. Spending about 15 minutes talking to somebody who knows a little about them would accomplish about the same as reading this book unless you have a VERY short attention span and would need a written transcript of the conversation. One positive thing I can say about the book is that they took the time to publish it and did a decent job on the cover. The book is really about 62 pages unless you count the 4 pages of blank lines titled "notes".There is a short section on troubleshooting with a few specific instructions, I just don't feel it justified purchasing the book.

Good for students.
This book is good for students or someone new to drives. But it is clear and to the point. But it is clear snd to the point written for electricians or someone educated in electrical.
