Basic Fishing: A Beginner's Guide

Not for rhe Pacific Northwest Fisherman
Was a bit disappointed. We are in the Pacific Northwest and surrounded by lakes. This book seems to be focused on Midwest/East Coast rivers and streams. The varieties of fish we fish for aren't even mentioned nor is there much info on lake fishing.

My Guy Loved This
This was THE perfect gift for a 12-year old lover of fishing. According to him, all that he'd read previously came from this "Bible of Fishing." He couldn't read it fast enough.

Very good book for beginner or for someone who wants to improve their skills
I've been fishing for many years but don't consider myself a true angler or expert fisherman by no means; I do it for fun and for relaxing and hanging with friends. I've caught my fair share of fish and enjoy the experience but I want to improve my skills and learn a lot more than I do and will probably be doing a lot more fishing now so I bought this book and it's very helpful, informative, and easy to understand. I like the pictures and various diagrams and so far it's been a very helpful resource and I expect to improve my technique so I can share the sport with my daughter

As advertised.
It covers the basics as advertised. Unfortunately the quality of the book itself is very poor. I plan to refer back to it and I doubt it will hold up well. The similar Field and Stream book was beautiful and excellent quality...but not basic and very disorganized. 2 stars. This book was well written and organized but lots of typos and graphics which were incomplete or wrong. I like the pics to match the text. Thanks to the author.

Great for the Beginner
This is a great book to start fishing with. Good information on poles & reals, fishing line types and what strength to use, how to tie fishing line knots, what size hook to use - all depending on what type and size fish you are looking to catch.

Excellent Introduction to Fishing
I did a lot of fishing when I was younger, but I got away from it until recently. This book served as a great refresher. It reminded me of some things I already knew, and it taught me some new things. I especially like the author's insights on how to figure out where the fish are located in the lake or river that you're fishing. Very helpful!

Perfect for beginners
I've always liked fishing, but never really known much about it. This book did an excellent job going over the basics and I was able to make a double perch rig with some tips from the knots included. It's got all the basics, from different fishing styles to techniques to identifying fish. It's small enough to fit in my tackle box as well.

Great resource for the newcomer to fishing
I got this book to re-introduce myself to fishing. It is a great first book that covers every essential aspect of the sport for the beginner, including gear selection, knots and how to find the darned fish. There is not much here that an experienced angler would not know, but for a novice, it is a great jumping off spot. Well written and highly recommended.
