Eavan BolandA Woman Without a Country: Poems

Thoughtful poems
This poetry book, written by Eavan Boland, an Irish poet, is filled with poems that reflect a female interpretation about life in Ireland. Nature abounds, but so does mythology and every day living in this poetry book. Boland's simple, yet complex style evokes philosophical discourse. Her poems also question what is truly important in life.

Rich Imagery, Many Questions
Boland's poetry is multidimensional-- a blend of rhythms, perfect diction, and rich sensory descriptions. This is accessible poetry; the images are tangible. Boland uses imagery of the physical world that allow the reader to experience how that physical world shapes our sense of ourselves in time and place. Yet there is so much to feel with this poetry, where the images have rich metaphors and references that beg the reader to question: Where is my "country"? In what place do I have a home or feel at home? In which ways does a woman have a more challenging or,conversely, easier time in finding her "country"?

Outstanding; wretched; wrechning
A powerful dislocating effort. Mixture of standing aside (observation) and uncomfortable realization. Never misunderstood or suspected a high falutin' word, all honest. Neeed to reread again and again.

Eaven Boland
I don't know how to begin to say how much I love Eavan Boland's poems. Look her up on the internet and see if you like them, strong and vivid and full of dark shapes and currents.

Good read
Interesting and perceptive insight into “ the troubles”:I particularly enjoyed her poems about her mother and the under recognised contribution women make.
