Men's Newsboy Linen Applejack Gatsby Collection Ivy Hats

I have a big head. About 23 1/8 (maybe L, maybe XL). This "newsboy" cap fits pretty well. It is tight enough to not fly off on a windy day, but not so tight to cause discomfort. The linen in the cap is high quality - that is why I bought it.It's made by Epoch and has 8 panels. The two front panels have a little bit of padding and a little plastic doohickey attached on the inside (see pic) to keep the panels down when buttoned to the cap. The two back panels are attached at bottom with a stretchy material to maintain fit. You can see the nice lining to the panels.To me, the padding on the two front panels flattens the front and makes the cap look a little more like a duckbill or an ivy cap. It's fairly streamlined on the sides, as well. If you look at "newsboy" pics with any current famous actor, this looks like what they are wearing. If you look at newsboy pics from the 1910s, this cap does not have the extra fabric and "poofiness" of that era (newsboy caps were also called bakerboys back then). This cap does not remind you of a baker at all.I would give this a 4.5 because it's a "modern" version of the newsboy cap. It is not quite what I was expecting, but my wife loves this one and the quality is very, very good. I bought another in gray.

The hat is impossibly tight due to the maker trying to fit everyone to save a buck thus not fitting 80 percent of the potential buyers. It is also woefully short on design. They obviously cut way down on the amount of fabric. Again to save a buck. As a result it looks like a slightly obese ivy or Ireland driving cap with the wrong brim. To label them Gatsby is to insult F. Scott Fitzgerald and the entire Roaring 20's. Real news boy hats became popular again in the late 60's and early 70's when the black avante guarde began to wear them which led the hoping to be cool white guys to adopt them. They have enough fabric to let you pull the dome over to the side without tilting the whole cap. The result is something that looks like a beret but with a brim. One of the coolest looks ever. This, whatever it is, is not that. And lacks all coolness.

I will try to make this hat work. I just don't want to go through the trouble of returning it. However, it is not an Epoch hats Men's Newsboy Linen Applejack Gatsby Collection Ivy Hats as advertised. It was BLACK and LINEN, as I ordered. BUT It is a WONDERFUL FASHION brand, NOT EPOCH AS ADVERTISED. I am disappointed; but will keep it as a reminder not to deal with this vendor again. I have several EPOCH wool caps. It is not of the same quality or appearance as anEPOCH. Disappointed in what I received from this vendor. Perhaps AMAZON can quality check vendors to be honest in what they sell as advertise. Pictures on advertisement do not represent what I received.

I like wearing these Epoch Newsboy hats. S/M fit me well especially with adjustable elastic band in the back. The Mint color is not as bright as the photo description photo. So my photo is more accurate in color. The only 2 colors I need are Sky and Burgandy. Also this seller is reliable you get a brand new hat in pristine condition. Also there is fast shipping. I ordered on Friday and seller shipped the same day.

THIS IS THE FIRST NEWSBOY CAP I HAVE EVER WORN AND I REALLY LIKE IT. THE CAP IS VERY COMFORTABLE AND EASILY ADJUSTS TO MY HEAD HOWEVER I CHOOSE TO WEAR IT. I'VE HAD SEVERAL COMPLIMENTS ON IT. THE CAP IS TRUE TO SIZE AND EXACTLY AS LISTED.

It was not the same color as shown online and I looked at it on multiple devices to be sure I was seeing the correct color. But the hat was more green than in the photos. I didn’t even take it out of the plastic because I knew instantly that it wasn’t a color I would wear.

Having a smaller (7 1/4 ball cap size) head was glad I read the reviews, this is closer to a S/M than L/XL, if you've ever owned a flex fit you'll know what I mean.Gotta say not bad at all for the price! Only complaint is came sealed in a bag folded and wrinkled. Easy fix: fill a big mixing bowl or sink with hot water and use bit of detergent or Dr Brommers and soak it good then rinse until the suds are gone. Towel pat dry, hang in the tub overnight and you're all set and looking smart.

I would have paid $100 for one made in the USA. Unfortunately I couldn’t find this exact style. Similar but not with this style of seam between the panels. No exposed stitches. So I guess this is exactly what I wanted minus being made in China.
