Great CD. much better than I thought it was going to be.

I am NOT a fan of shredding in itself so I always "passed" on Marty, but he is coming to town so I decided to go and see the legend and bought some stuff. Biiiig surprise. Not only shredding but also great songs, melodies, even singing (and that applies to all his albums I could get my hands on, incl the recent live one). This particular one is mixing his Japanese and American lives (and music) more than ever, and it is really amazingly good stuff. Recommended, even if you do not measure quality by the number of notes per millisecond :)

Great album by a great musician

Was a bit wary because of the title of the CD, but as usual everything Marty Friedman does is BRILLIANT Great CD and a great price.

Marty former guitar slinger in Megadeth . Now living in Japan. Shows his love for Japanese music.

This is Marty Friedman's album that features many guitar covers of many famous japanese pop songs, this is the most unusual album so far from the man who left megadeth becuase they supposedly weren't heavy enough, but some of the songs on this album seem to be turned sharply in the other direction. Some of the songs feature techno music with a lead being run over the top of the songs. Initially i wasn't fond of all the songs mainly becuase im not a fan in the slightest of dancey music but after a few listen throughs I must admit it has grown tremendously on me and I would now listen to it more than any of his other albums I have. The guitar playing as always is stellar, very fast, fluent and with his perfect bizarre timing. Anyone who is a fan should give it a go, it may be a bit different to his prior albums but it is excellent with some of the most memorable pieces of guitar I have ever heard.

Jeder kennt ihn! Spätestens seit den Zeiten bei Megadeth ist Marty Friedman einer DER Gitarrengrössen. Obwohl er vorher schon für mächtig Wirbel zusammen mit Jason Becker als Cacophony gemacht hat. Nun hat er sein neues Album herausgebracht und das ist sowas von... Extrem eingängig und melodiös. Aber es kommt mit einer Wucht daher, die sich gewaschen hat. Mal verspielt und filigran, dann wieder brutal trocken. Das Album ist für alle, die guten Melodic Metal hören aber dabei nicht von nervigen Gejaule gestört werden möchten! Das Album eröffnet mit "Tsume Tsume Tsume" ohne Kompromisse und nimmt dann mit GIFT einen Schlag Tempo raus. Polyrhythm und "Yuki no Hana" im Verlauf heizen weiter ein. Ich kann kein Lied in irgendwelche Schubladen quetschen, es zieht sich wie ein Roter Faden durchs Album, nichts wiederholt sich, alles passt. Super abgemischt und kurzweilig kommt die gesamte CD daher. Wer bei den treibenden Beats von "Music for Speeding" mit dem Fuss schon mitgewippt hat, der ist hier goldrichtig. Rauf und runter... Ich sage: Kaufen und viel Spaß beim Hören! Repeat-Taste nicht vergessen!

If you have been a fan of Marty's solo work then this will scratch that itch for you. Makenaide is an amazing tribute (cover) to remind people to never give up, the video for it even has an appearance from Jason becker. His bassists Kiyoshi shines on this album. Anyways another solid entry into the world of Marty

私は本来モダンジャズ愛好家ですが・・・・ ロックミュージシャンの彼が日本の演歌をエレキギターでシャウトしたギターサウンドに仕立て上げて聴かせてくれたことに、その格好良さに感激をしました。 但し、そんなに何度も聞き返すことはありませんけど・・・なんかのかげんで～時々、聴いています。 寂しいなぁ～ と～ 思ったときや・・・気分が晴れンなぁ～～の時に・・・聴いてみて下さい。 外人が日本の演歌を気に入ってくれていることに・・・すこし～嬉しくなるサウンドです。。

Schon vor etlichen Jahren zog es den ehemaligen Megadeth-Gitarristen Marty Friedman in seine neue Wahlheimat Japan. Seine Liebe und Faszination für das Land kommt auch auf seinem neusten Soloalbum zum Ausdruck: "Tokyo Jukebox 3" enthält Songs aus der japanischen Popkultur, aufgemotzt zu melodischen Prog-Metal-Versionen. Die Leitmotive der Originale - auch wenn man die, so wie ich, gar nicht kennt - sind dabei immer rauszuhören, jedoch werden sie eingebaut zwischen teils vertrackte Rhythmen und Flitzefinger-Gitarrensoli. Der Großteil des Albums ist instrumental gehalten, nur bei "The Perfect World" hat die japanische Sängerin Alfaykyun. (ja, der Punkt gehört zum Namen) einen Gastauftritt. Nicht nur Friedman selbst, auch seine beiden Mitmusiker an Bass und Drums glänzen mit großem Können und bekommen auch genug Raum, um das zu zeigen. Normalerweise interessieren mich instrumental gehaltene Soloalben von Gitarristen nicht. "Tokyo Jukebox 3" jedoch finde ich ziemlich gut. Weil's eben einfach mal was anderes ist.
