Soft Start on a reliable rotary workhorse
Ive used this machine for 18 months. It joined my collection of other sanders, grinders, polishers/buffers from Bosch, Makita, Ridgid, DeWalt, Central Electric (and the other Harbor Freight brand Hercules) and a very old and really huge Matabo. They all have their strengths and weak points. With this one that soft start always takes me by surprise the first time. But thats a feature that I really like. Especially like it as I'm getting a paint job near the final glossy finish after many hours of hands on work. The switch and speed cintrol are still working fine. The only thing I did to this was open it up and replace the low quality grease in the gears with high quality grease. Typically white lithium. I do that on just about all of my tools though. For me this has been a great workhorse of a rotary sander / polisher. I'd definitely buy it again. And i would still forget and be surprised with that first soft-start.UPDATE MAY 2019. It's a sad time here. I friend my Neiko. I had it on an extension cord that was too long for the amps it was pulling. I know better than to do this but was in a rush, the 100 foot ext cord was already laid out and...it overheated on me and fried. I'm going to take it apart and see if there's something I can fix inside. Otherwise as I said in my initial review, I will purchase this again.

Initial thoughts
I just got this a week ago. I tested it out and it works. It is pretty heavy. It is very sturdy also, but I have one problem. There is some cosmetic damage on the metal area that is close to where the plastic area begins. I think it's ok but I hope there is nothing wrong with it. This is my first professional buffer. Another thing is that when the buffer spins down I hear some grinding. I don't know if this is normal. The buffer is fast and the wool bonnet you get does a good job of taking off the wax and leaving a nice shine. I still have to use it more to get a better feel of it. I will update the review if anything comes up.

Cuts the Mustard!
It's a little heavy but seems to be solidly made. It has a "soft-start" motor, meaning that it won't jerk out of your hands when you hit the trigger. It takes it a couple of seconds to rev up to speed, and that's nice. The price is also a consideration. You won't break the bank with this machine.I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma that has lived "in the woods" for 18 years and suffered my neglect. The paint was so badly oxidized that my red truck was orange. With this machine, some good wool bonnets and buffing compound, along with some patience and elbow grease, I'm bringing the original factory paint job back to it's former glory and I'm tickled pink about it. Uh, I mean,... tickled red about it.If you're new to high speed buffing and polishing like me, there are plenty of good vids on YouTube to get you going. It's a LOT cheaper than a new paint job!

this thing was way too cheap for the quality!
runs like a champ! i did some polish work on my old vw golf, and i was seriously impressed. after about 3 hours of consistent use, the motor assembly was STARTING to get warm. i used it at the slow setting (1) for what i was doing and the polish i was using. i bought some cheap foam pads and they performed much worse than this unit did. the easy-start was nice, kept from slinging polish all over when you first start, handles are solid and have a heavy feel. motor was plenty powerful for what i was doing, in fact it tried to jump a little when some of the polish balled up on me! overall, i almost feel like i didnt pay ENOUGH for this unit, it feels and runs like something that probably should cost a little bit more. big thumbs up. hope the longevity matches its performance lately.

Don’t do It. Not worth the cost
I bought this for my son for his birthday last week and we tried it out. The polisher looks like it would work great, but don’t be fooled it does not. Either it’s the motor or the electrical that does not allow you to use the variable speed.I bought this a while ago so I have no recourse. In two words to sum it up “It sucks”

Quit working. Motor speed controller died. Bypassed controller. Works fine but full speed only.
UPDATE 9/6/2017: Motor variable speed controller stopped working which basically means it won't run anymore, completely dead. Its a potted TRIAC (ST Micro BTA 16 amp) circuit very similar to a dimmer switch. I'm looking for a replacement but can't find the part anywhere and the potting makes individual circuit element replacement impractical. Likely the controller part would cost about the same as a new polisher anyway. I've noticed multiple other reviews where the unit died and I'll bet this is the reason for all of them. In the meantime I simply by-passed it electrically which means that I only have full speed ON or OFF now. Hey, at least it is still operable. I also noticed that the left motor brush (from behind/above) has worn down 3x faster than the right side one, unusual. Taking off 2 stars for not lasting.Original Review:High quality tool at a great price. For an 11 amp brushed motor the noise level is totally appropriate. The noise level is comparable to a belt sander of similar power. If you own one you know how loud this is. The gearbox noise seemed a little high so I opened the case and found that the heavy grease surrounding the ring/pinion gears was pushed aside, making a voided area where the gears mesh. Replaced it with better grease and it became quieter, but not silent of course. If you would use the tool long enough until it was fairly warm, ~140 degrees, it is quite possible that the original grease would begin to liquify and lubricate better. However, if you only use the tool briefly for small jobs this may not happen and you could wear the gears out faster. Highly recommended with these provisions.

Me gusta bastante
Me parece una gran maquina por el precio, se ve fuerte y bien hecha. Algunos se quejan porque las velocidades no entran de inmediato pero considero que es para evitar accidentes al accionar la máquina por error. Mejor maquina por ese precio no hay.
