Beautiful and informative
I use this book for one of my jobs selling Indian textiles, clothing, art. It has been invaluable in helping me to get a grip on the vast information I am trying to glean and remember. It helps me to inform clients about the uniqueness of their item and also the manner in which it was crafted. It adds to my and their appreciation of hand crafted items. It arrived in excellent condition.

traditional Indian textiles
This was an excellent book. Beautiful photographs, showing a cross sections of designs, in fabric, traditional clothing, and decorative items such as donkey blankets etc. A feast for the eyes. It will provide me with endless ideas for applique and quilting.

First rate textile book
I picked up a copy of the hardback first edition (1992) on a recent trawl of our county's main library. It's a winner, and I'll be buying a copy. This is a first-rate textile book. You can't go far wrong with a Thames & Hudson art book, even an old one. The color reproductions are crisp and clear. The textiles are (for the most part) typical of what one finds in the market (or did then). Gillow & Barnard also provide informative sketches and text, and a good number of photos of textiles in their original context, which are both informative & very cool. Highly recommended for Indian textile fans. There's a new edition (2008) at Indian Textiles (Revised and Expanded Edition) . I haven't seen it.I recently spent a couple of days in Santa Fe's Folk Art museum, largely in the Alexander Girard collection. Girard had an eye for good Indian textiles, bought a lot of them in the 1940s to 60s, and put the best on exhibit in the wing he donated. You would be well-advised to spend time there, too.Happy reading -- and collecting,Peter D. Tillman

Erudite and illuminating
I bought this because I was writing emergency text panels and captions for a museum exhibition. Sadly, because of the heavy snow and subsequent lack of mail, the book arrived too late for the work, but I have since spent many a happy hour looking through it, and feeling irritated because all the information (and a lot more besides) which I had spent three full days researching on the internet was all there, easily accessible, beautifully written, and, more to the point, exquistely illustrated.

... copy of this book and decided that I would like my own copy to use as a reference source
I had already seen a copy of this book and decided that I would like my own copy to use as a reference source. It is informative and the coloured illustrations have been a useful source of inspiration.
