I have a HUE system, but wanted to try this bulb because it does not require a hub. I am working on setting up wifi lights for a family member, and the complexity of the hub may prove too difficult for them. Therefore, this bulb was a must try.First - set-up: Set up was relatively easy. I did have to re-set to factory settings before it was discoverable on my wifi, but the instructions within the app (which you must install) were very simple and easy to follow.Light Control: I love that this light changes colors!! I have it in an antique lamp with a blue glass base, and I love that I can match the light with the color of the lamp. It was fun trying out all of the different colors. I did settle on a soft white since I will probably use this as a night light. You can also adjust the brightness within the app as well. I did not try the music or other more elaborate functions,but I did set two timers to turn the light on at 8:00 PM and off at 7:00 AM to serve as a night light. You can, of course, select the color light as well as the brightness.Alexa: I was able to quickly and easily enable the skill to be able to control the light via my Echo Dot and Alexa was able to recognize the light.Overall, this is a GREAT light with a ton of features. The fact that it does not require a hub is a huge plus. The easy set-up along with the features definitely make this a five-star product. I anticipate I will purchase additional bulbs for myself and/or family. I would definitely recommend! I've included some photos that showcase a couple of the different colors.

The light works great, but it doesn't work with a 5Ghz wireless network only a 2.4Ghz network and the password CAN NOT be to complicated or the light seems to have trouble connecting. Also the base gets pretty warm when on which I suspect is the reason people are complaining about them blowing out, but we will see.4 stars because they forced me to create a 2.4Ghz network to handle them.

 In order to get this bulb to work, you will need a 2.4 GHz wifi router. This is a requirement.Here are the steps taken to set up the bulb with Alexa.- First, I had to reset the computer inside the bulb. This involved turning the bulb on and off three times.- I installed the "Magic Home" app to my Android phone.- I had to create a new account with magichue.net. The app could be a little more polished because it doesn't explicitly say that you must use your email address as your username. I recommend a strong, random password because I can't vouch for the security of a website without content on it.- I connected the bulb to my account. At this point, I'm able to play with the colors of the bulb on my phone. The various color rotation modes are fun.How to get your skill to work with Alexa.- From here, I started up the Amazon Alexa app.- I added the skill "Magic Home". This requires linking your magichue.net account from earlier. Hope you wrote down your strong, random password.- I then directed Alexa to discover any new smart home devices in my home.I'm now able to control the bulb with my voice.

The only problem I had was with the initial WiFi setup. From the other reviews, I think my case is not typical; but it took a couple of hours of trial and error to get the WiFi connections to work. I had to make the following changes to my smartphone settings in addition to the instructions that were provided:1. Disconnect smartphone from my home WiFi2. Turn off "Mobile Data" on smartphoneThe setup completed successfully after I made those adjustments, but it did take a couple of hours to figure out. After the setup was complete, I switched the smartphone settings back to normal, and everything worked just fine.Once the setup unpleasantness was out of the way, I'm finding that the bulb works really well. I thought that it would be brighter, but it's still bright enough. Setting up voice control through Amazon Alexa was really easy. I'm mainly looking at using the timer functions to bring the light on gradually in the morning and to turn the light on and off on a schedule when I'm away from home; and so far, my timer settings are working exactly as expected.In all, I'm really happy with this purchase; and I would have given a five star rating if it weren't for the setup problems.

I got this bulb to put in my room to control my night light, it is so awesome! I can control it from my phone, changing the colors and the settings. My daughter saw it and now she wants one for her room too, looks like I will be ordering another one.

The link app adapts and is easy to operate! Color and brightness, color temperature can be adjusted! It's amazing. You can follow the music rhythm!
