L1: Rip Van Winkle (2nd Edition) (Penguin Readers, Level 1)

I was searching the Amazon Kindle site and found the Kindle book Rib Van Winkle and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Since Fox Channel has the new Show on Monday nights about Sleepy Hollow, I decided to get this Kindle book to re-read Sleepy Hollow. I had forgottenmost of the story. If a person would like to know about the original story this book is ideal. The illustrations add understanding about the plot.Of course, the TV Show has the Headless Horseman who is killing folks. The story takes place in 21st century. Since Sleep Hollow is being filmed in Wilmington,., New Bern, and Salisbury, N.C. and other areas in our great state, it is fun to see if you can recognize some of the scenes.I would recommend Rip Van Winkle and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow to be read to anyone who loves history and a little mystery. It is a safe book to read to children.Southern Lady

I ordered this for the illustrations by the Petershams, Maud and Miska. The book sent to me is illustrated by David Levine.A great disappointment. I decided to keep the book anyway, but will try again with renewed strength & hope. The Petershams were personal friends so THEIR illustrations are of prime importance to me as a collector.

The best illustrations of Irving's two best loved tales. Irving himself had the opportunity to view these illustrations in an earlier edition. This is coffee table type book, but not a cumbersome size. What I really like is that this book has sewn binding, not glued.

We bought both the German as well as the English version and will be read in our Multi-Language Family.

This is WAY TOO below grade level. I needed a more modern translation but this is ridiculously simplified .

Washington Irving is a GREAT story teller. Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow are great stories in their original forms. I am glad that I read them and recommend them.

Buongiorno, all'interno dell'imballo di cartone il libro non era avvolto dal pacchetto della casa editrice ( Penguin Readers) come l'altro libro comprato in precedenza. Difatti l'articolo era sprovvisto del CD che questa casa editrice inserisce sempre nei suoi libri.Devo fare reclamo e farmi spedire il Cd che mancava.saluti

リップ・バン・ウィンクルは酒場に入りびたりの怠け者。妻にがみがみ言われ、愛犬ウルフを連れて家から逃げ出します。山で樽を担いだ老人と出会い、ついてゆくと物言わぬ年寄りが大勢たむろしている一軒家につきました。老人たちと酒を飲み、翌朝木の下で目覚めますが、ウルフの姿はありません。そのまま町に帰りましたが、知った人がだれもいない。一晩の間に、20 年の歳月が流れ、町は英国ではなくて米国になっていたというお話。でも成人した娘と再開できたのがせめてもの慰めでしょうか。スリーピーホローの昔話は、幽霊が出るといううわさを利用して村の若者がよそ者を追い払い、意中の村娘とめでたく結ばれる話。アービングはリップ・バン・ウィンクルとスリーピーホローの物語で一躍有名になりました。いずれも楽しい読み物です。本書の英語はペンギンリーダーズのレベル１（語彙数300）。やさしくわかりやすい。

私は、学生時代に英語と喧嘩別れして以来…何年も英語を勉強した事がなく、一生縁がないかも！と思っていたくらい英語アレルギーでした。そんな私でも、辞書なしで滞りなく読み進める事ができました。この本を選んだきっかけは、ジョニー・デップ主演映画「Sleepy Hollow」が好きだからというそんな理由からでしたが、とても楽しめました。２つのお話が収録されているのですが、どちらも同じ舞台で怖い話が描かれています。やっぱり語彙数が制限されているので、直接的な表現になりがちで簡素に描かれている印象です。それでも私は、ちょっとドキドキしちゃいました。英語を英語で理解しながら、最後まで楽しんで読める本です！語彙300　総語数3900　ＳＳＳ難易度レベルは１です。

２つの話が入った本です。読みやすい本なのですが、語彙レベルが低いのでちょっと物足りないでしょうか。Sleepy Hollowの話は、映画にもなっていますが、ずいぶんあっさりしていて、あれー、って印象でした。
