My daughter has begged for this gift for the past 2 years. I refused to give in because of the price but when I saw this on Amazon for half off of what it was originally sold for I just had to jump on it. Now I may have to edit this review because I have not put it together. I've only pulled it out of the box to make sure it was what I paid for. With that said. I've looked high and low searching for something similar in quality for less money. I'm glad I didn't skimp. This truly is the real deal, . . accept no other imitations. For one thing my daughter is 6 years old. The other horses out there although cheaper are not as tall or as sturdy. I think that they would be great for younger kids. For another thing, . . lets face it having the carrot is a big deal to a kid. It is extremely life like and interactive. Sure this thing will probably end up becoming an expensive coat rack after a while but the anticipation of the look on her face on Christmas morning is well worth it. I know that she is not expecting it at all since I told her that it was just way to much money for a toy. Oh and another thing the seller from Amazon had this thing on my door step within 24 hours for no additional charge. Now that could have been some sort of deal or promo to move these things but how can you beat that. On top of that the FED EX guy that delivered was so nice as to warn me that the box was NOT covered and asked me if there were any kids around. How cool was that! So overal great seller, great product.--updated reviewWell, the look on my daughter's face on Christmas was absolutely priceless. We put Butterscotch together on Christmas Eve with a giant red bow around her neck. Butterscotch is interactive, moves when petted in certain spots. Crunches on a carrot. This is a very impressive toy. Now the bad. My daughter is 6 and the head of this toy needs assembly. I don't know how much abuse this thing can handle. I've told my daughter not to lean on the neck of Butterschotch because in all honesty I don't believe that it will hold up. The neck moves from side to side and is not very solidly constructed. Oh and it is big. Very big, so make sure you have space in your childs room.

Great toy and outstanding merchant!!
I have to confess, this horse was as much for me as it was for keeping in the house for the grandchildren to come over and have a great memory of my house. What children wouldn't love a toy like this that's as close to a real one as most children will get? And they absolutely LOVE it. They're so taken in with the pony reacting to their voices and turning towards them when they speak to it that they keep talking to it, cover her up when they're off to bed and run to Butterscotch first thing in the morning. It's going to be a battle to get it out of their house (where I had it delivered) and home to mine where it was supposed to go in the first place, to wait for their visits.Next, and most important, for something as expensive as this, you need to feel like you can trust the merchant and after dealing with Chris at Collect Musings, I can't say enough about how great they are. As I said, the horse was expensive and I was aware that it wasn't available from the manufacturer anymore so I was apprenhensive about taking the risk of buying something I couldn't count on the manufacturer to help me with if a reason arose to need their help. An email or two to Collect Musings put my fears to rest and I took the plunge. As it turned out, I had a minor problem when it arrived and I thought I was stuck since the horse is no longer in production. I took a chance and sent off an email to Collect Musings and to my surprise, they jumped right onto the problem and agreed to fix things completely for me.After years of experience of not getting help from some companys when I AM entitled to it, this quick response and service above and beyond what I expected has made me a fan and I will absolutely be back to do business with them in the future and recommend them to anyone who happens to be looking for any item they carry.

Great toy for child with sensory processing difficulties
We have a 9 year old daughter with some sensory processing delays. She's a bit young for her age and when she asked for the "yellow Smores" we weren't sure if it was worth the cost. I missed out on the ninety nine dollar lightning deal, but did pick Butterscotch up for just under a hundred and fifty with free shipping. As others have mentioned, this box leaves nothing to the imagination, so please be careful! Also, the pony comes headless, so if possible, try to assemble prior to giving if at all possible. The head is located in a small boxy that is under the pony's belly inside the big box. Assembly wasn't difficult and in only a few minutes Butterscotch was fully assembled and ready to go. She takes six D size batteries and I'll try to update my review with the battery life soon.I thought it entirely possible that this would be one of the gifts we'd buy, our daughter would enjoy the initial excitement of Butterscotch and then it would wind up taking up space in the corner somewhere. Not true so far. Our daughter loves this horse and she'll tell you that she loves her pony, really loves her. With her sensory processing issues, I wasn't sure how it would go over, but she loves being able to sit on the pony, lean on her, the fur, brushing Butterscotch's hair, the movements and noise. It is enough without being too overwhelming. She also likes figuring out just what to do in order to make Butterscotch respond the way she wants. When Butterscotch's head moves, there is some mechanical sound, but its not too loud, we've not had any loud clicking or anything like that either. I wish the on/off switch on the underside was a little more accessible for our daughter, but after a few times of showing her and helping her, she is able to switch it by herself now.Our daughter enjoys taking care of Butterscotch much like she does with her baby dolls. Since our daughter has a difficult time expressing herself and forming relationships, Butterscotch has been ideal for her needs. I'm very happy with our purchase and expect Butterscotch to be part of our family for awhile.
