Truly Mars and Venus: The Illustrated Essential Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus

EVERYONE SHOULD LOVE THIS ONE!
Simply put: a great gift book for Valentines' Day!I really enjoyed reading this "greatest hits" album of Mars and Venus. It's short, easy to read, and fun, yet its simple messages can probably save a lot of marriages.Like a lot of people, I've already read the original Mars and Venus book along with a few more in the series. That first one was the biggest-selling relationship/self-help book of the 1990's according to USA Today. But here in 2003, people are still looking for the same quality of information and wisdom but perhaps in a more interesting format for our "shorter than 1990's" attention spans. As a fellow author in this genre, I'm often times skeptical about new books on relationships (like what's new or original about this). But in the case of John Gray I have the utmost respect......his books are wise, valuable and fun to read. And this one is the most fun of them all! Some interesting, well-illustrated points include:* Men think that women want to change them and women think that men don't listen.* Men go into their caves to solve problems and women want to talk about them.* Men are like rubber bands: when a man loves a woman he periodically needs to pull away before he can get closer.* Women are like waves: a woman will rise and fall in her ability to love themselves and others. For those looking for practical, ready-to-use advice, you'll like the "25 ways to score big on Venus" (plan a date several days in advance, give her a hug before anything else, when listening make eye contact) and "25 ways to score big on Mars" (ask his opinion, practice accepting his imperfections, admire his strengths and talents). There are also important chapters about how to handle arguments, how to give up changing a man, how to ask for support, and a new one for me.....the seasons of love....which was a nice little treat. At a unique time when the pop culture is so fixated on the likes of The Bachelor, Joe Millionaire, Blind Date, and the Bachelorette, it's nice to come back to the wisdom of Mars and Venus in a more condensed, up-to-date, and cleverly illustrated package.

easy to read
easy to read! This is a must for every couple, and to build stable homes for children. Instead of blaming ourselves or each other, it would be loving to learn an other's language. You would be surprised how easy. Learn to problem solve by reflecting back words and feelings of others. Seek to understand then be understood. Slip this book in with every wedding gift or baby shower. Do not commit to a relationship until a potential partner reads this comic book format, easy to read, instruction manual. Don't sell yourself short. Don't even kiss until you read the damn book.

read it twice and decided to give it only 3 stars
I read this book and found I got more info on men more than women. Of course, the author is from Mars. He mostly like could only describe women how moody they are than giving "solutions to men on how to fix relationship". Maybe like he said, Men don't like people telling them how to fix things. Instead, he wrote more chapters on "Versuians only". I don't see a chapter noted "Marians only". All he wrote about is how moody women are and it is not men's fault. And, when men feel like "going back into their cave, women shouldn't bother or offer talk." He wrote on what Martian and Verusians shouldn't do. But, what we should do?? Very few recommandations.I remember I read a review from a lady who bought John Gary' another book. She totally got disappointed that John Gary believes that maybe women can gave men a head when women don't feel too well for sex. Women don't only want love and a listener after a long day, she also wants some pampers and a massage as well.John Gary, maybe you need to put yourself into women's shoes. Think about women's PMS days and suggest men know HOW to show their love instead of telling men "show your love". But too bad, men don't take suggestions anyways...

A few good insights
There are some helpful points in this book for sure. However generally I have to agree with another poster that this book was heavy on the "how to please a man" side. There are some aspects of this book that are just downright ridiculous, but I will admit there are some valid parts as well. Its a mixed bag, but I probably wouldn't recommend it. I hope the full version of this book is a little more informative, insightful, and evenly balanced. I could imagine there are better books out there on this topic.

Great book for all
I tried to read the original but it was fairly repetitive. This book distilled all the important information and I can always go back to the original if I want clarification. I have bought five copies of this book for family and friends. It is full of truth and useful information!

The best one of the series to get for a man (small, illustrated)
What a fun little book! It's got illustrations - so if you're looking to get a guy to read something like books in this series, this is the one to get.
