Great powerful clear sound in a small enclosure!
I bought these to use in my workshop area. I needed speakers which were fairly small but powerful with clear sound. This fit the bill perfectly. The highs are crisp, the lows are clear but full, and the midrange sparkles. Great for music and also for listening to old-time radio mystery shows, which is what I have on most of the time when I'm working.Great price for the quality that these contain -- higher than some other choices but well-worth the price.

You really need a good dac and amp for this speaker
I use these speakers for my desktop computer. I listen in front of my desk which is very near. The speakers are a little big(5.25"), but acceptable. And these speakers can be placed in horizontal, so they can be placed under monitors horizontally if you have monitor arms, which is a big plus for my desktop setup, I have dual monitor setup and the monitor will not block these speakers. As suggested from other comments I bought a fosi audio amp TDA7498E 160w x 2, the result is not so good. If you listen in front of your desk, you do not need a 160w amp, I can only turn 10% volume at most and the sound is already very loud. Also it has noticeable background electric current noise from the speakers, which is not acceptable.I purchased a second hand nuforce icon amp from ebay instead. This amp is maybe 10 years old, it can output 24w at 4ohm(JBL C1Pro), but it is really enough for listening from desktop. Actually I did not turn more than 50% of the volume. Though the nuforce icon amp is very old, it has almost no background noise, which is much superior than the fosi audio amp. Personally I also think the audio quality is better, too.I also has a CamBridge audio DacMagic 100 dac, connected to my computer. The combination of DacMagic, Icon Amp and JBL C1Pro is really good. They produce fantastic sound. Both DacMagic and Icon Amp are very old products, currently you have more choices at low price. But please purchase qualified dac and amp, not the DIY ones, or from unknown companies, which may not be reliable. Do not look at the numbers, such as 160w, you may not need such a powerful output for near field listening. I think at most 30w amp from any big audio companies should be sufficient for desktop listening.Update 7/23/2023:After more than one years of usage, this pair of speakers is still a great purchase for computer, no complain at all. The weight of the speakers is not heavy as other wood solid speakers, that is a good plus for me since I am using a standing desk which has a loading limit, I do not want a speaker which is even heavier than the monitor.

So How Good Are These Speakers?
I wanted something to iisten to my music in a apartment mini-studio enviro. I've lived with JBL's for decades and have a pair of large studio monitors stored away. These are for blasting and a studio, so wanted quality without blasting the neighbors, cuz I spent years trying to get to turn their junk down.I wanted quality without the volumn. Since I listen to at least 6 hours a day, my headphone use has lead to ringing in my ears, time to let the ears heal.So I checked out everything under $400 bucks. I decided to go this route. I don't really care for powered speakers. I have Bose computer speakers, good for consumer listening. Not pro. Pro means balanced, plus 4. I went with these JBL's and Alesis RA 150 Power Amp. The amp takes plus 4 TRS and I love it, good power for small stuff. So today I put the JBL's to a test. Ran ProTascam CD through small quiet Mackie board, I like these, they are quiet, cheap, great or keyboards, have a nice pre and are just good luge along to a job board and quiet, no noise. Set the levels on the channels, no distortion, set the mains to zero out, lots of headroom and them set the amp levels to the volumn and tried to find the sweet spot of the speakers.Holding ear about 6 inches from the speaker A/B'ed the speakers with my studio AKG240 headphones. I thought this would be THE test. You can't beat the sound of the AKG's with speakers under a grand. So how did these tiny book shelf speakers hold up? Not bad! Not the fullness, or richness of top of the line studio stuff. But I would say they held up 80%.So I'm very happy cuz I didn't spent a grand for em. I wouldn't mix or master with them, but I would put them in a professional level. You can't drive them hard, but they are perfect for my current needs. I spent a good hour back and forth, listening to a wide range of well recorded music. So these are keepers. All the gear mentioned here is reccomended. If you love audio, go pro. Also, I listen to most of my music off my Macs, use audio/in/out boxes. 16bit sounds better with 24/96 converters. Also, If you have a DAW you can up convert your remasters to 24bit. This is bitmapped but still amazing, 24/96 is the standard now, Itunes player play these files. This is for real music lovers. People say it takes up disc space, heck, I have plenty on my terrabyte drives. I just love my music so much.

Great Atmos speakers
I bought these for use as Height/Atmos speakers. Small, lightweight, good sound, plenty loud. Bass: very good for the size. You will need a subwoofer for the real lows. Midrange: As with most 2 way speakers, the midrange is a bit weak but with a little EQ, they sound a lot better. Treble: Wish the tweeter was aluminum but still, for my purposes, it is just fine. Pros. Plenty loud, Light weight, strong cabinet, Very good sound for what they are and the size. Plenty of bass. Cons. Bass and the rest are not balanced very well but with EQ, mids and highs balance better. lower side on sensitivity 87Db so around 50 Watts is where they start to really shine. Wall bracket is not very flexible for aiming them. On mine, the grill cover is extremely loose. A few layers of tape on each side and it will be good. Spring connectors on back for connection. C'mon JBL, why not banana plugs. I highly recommend Monoprice 109438 Gold Plated Speaker Pin Plugs instead of bare wire. Over all.... I likey.... a lot! They will be great for my use as Atmos speakers. I have always liked JBL products and I highly recommend these speakers.
