Good gear. Good price.
The total length is 250mm with a scale on the side, inset on each end, starting at 5mm and ending at 245mm. All of the ancillary round holes are threaded (three central holes are 1/4”, two of the three end holes are 4mm and the middle of that group is ¼”, while under the bubble of the level is another ¼” hole). The two 4mm holes are just over 14mm apart center-to-center.A small bag of hardware is included. The ¼” screw heads do mar the mounting plate when tightened and would benefit from some polishing of the underside of the head to remove burs. I quickly “repurposed” these screws. The balance of the hardware and tools are as pictures and are not remarkable. The bubble level is accurate enough for basic work, but clearly not precision-made, and, when relied upon, has shown to contribute significant stepping into panoramic series of shots (about a 2-degree error per shot)..Not including this rail, the current camera, lens and mount in use is 4.5 pounds and requires an offset of nearly the length of this rail, using 230mm of the 250mm length. The rail is heavy enough to handle this task without concern for loss of gear.

Nice long foot for Canon EF 600 f/4 IS USM
I bought this to mount it on the OEM foot of Canon EF 600 f/4 IS USM. I know this is listed as a macro rail but it works fine as a lens plate. I wanted to replace the foot on the Canon EF 600 f/4 IS USM with an arca-swiss compatible one. I looked at the RRS LCF-51 but that is expensive and also not that long. Not knowing what length of a plate would be good for this lens to balance a 5D4 and a 80D I decided to go with this. I have no regrets. It works very well. The plate clears the lens hood when reversed. It feels very sturdy. The screw holes on the OEM lens foot are 1/4" and 3/8". So I had to get a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter that does not protrude. I bought "Foto&Tech 5 Pieces Metal 1/4" to 3/8" Convert Screw Adapter for Tripod Monopod Ballhead DSLR SLR". Please see my review on that for details. If I had to do this again I will go with a little shorter lens plate or macro rail. Please see the picture hope that helps you make a decisionlink to the 1/4" to 3/8" adapters: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OKYWWMG

Really solid!
Nicely machined. Accurate spirit level at one end. Very clearly marked in mm's, 0 - 240. I wanted a long one, about 9.4 inches, as this will easily handle all of my lenses for any panarama I may do. Also got a double clamp, bi-directional, so I can use a long lens or normal for it. Honestly for a product like this I cannot justify in my mind spending anymore than I spent on this one and you can spend much more. Well done Desmond!

Great solution for heavier lenses
I originally purchased this for letting me balance the load on my tripod when using a long telephoto lens, and it works fantastic for this as well as for nodal point rotations when taking panoramic photos. The rail is very sturdy. I prefer this kind of rail (with no integrated ARCA clamp) because it gives me much more flexibility to use it in different ways.

Sturdy
Hefty, and built in a robust way. Does exactly what you need it to do. If you buy a more expensive item you’re just wasting money.

Good product
Excellent product. Strong, well finished. Price is good as well. Not to criticize other makes, but I am wondering why the need to be so much more for pricing?

Burly, solid rail
Got this to make a punk rock l bracket for the d3, but ended up using it as a thicker/longer base rail for my pano rig, bonus pack of stop and captive screws in the offering I got. Keep up the great work, Desmond!
