Great book
I ordered this book to help someone struggling with a higher power concept. We both learned from this book. With you are new to recovery a long-timer or just want to learn about alcoholism you find this book helpful.

For anyone seeking recovery, regardless of belief system
The author draws upon his extensive knowledge of the chemistry and neurobiology of addiction to give a very informative overview of the why and wherefore of the problem(s). He goes on to outline a plan for recovery that excises the religious language and assumptions often associated with 12 step recovery to reveal the underlying principles that have worked so well for so many. His secular approach should benefit many who are turned away from AA and other 12 step recovery systems by the "God talk," but more than that his approach can benefit anyone who seeks to implement a plan for recovery regardless of any religious beliefs or lack of them.As a person whose recovery spans almost 4 decades, I appreciate his distillations and updating of the science behind both addiction and recovery. Highly recommended.

Good review the steps
The second chapter about the biology of addiction is very powerful, easy and complete, I recommend strongly that. The others chapters about the steps have many tools and are very usefull.

good for addicts and their support systems too
I bought this for an atheist in my life who is doing the 12 steps. The AA program is beneficial to him but he was having a hard time wading though the religion to get to the root of the program. This book has helped tremendously. Though not an alcoholic, I also read this book and it helped me to get some insight on the program but also think through other issues in my life and behaviors I could work on. It's a very quick read. Not many pages and pretty big text but great content. Highly recommend.

It's like a universal rulebook towards recovery from addiction.
The book is great and is easy to understand. This will help me so much as I have had so many "aha moments" throughout my read of this book. I highly recommend it take anyone whom is currently an addict. Rather it be hard drugs, alcohol, or porn/sex addiction. This book is gold.

Excellent!
This is a brilliant take on the 12 steps that explain them in a way so that they can be used by anybody believer or sceptic. I personally have a different secular approach to the steps than the one In This book and it works for me but I still learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the way the author explains it.
