Nice bitter, firm pontefract cakes licorice.

These are what real Pontefract Cakes should be - slightly hard (not soft and gummy) with a very distinctive licorice taste - the same taste that they had when I was a kid in England, many, many moons ago. They take about 2 weeks to come from the UK

I have yet to find any licorice that duplicates the molassesy, licorice flavor of the original Pontifract Cakes from Pontefract, UK. Too bad the factory burned down.That said, these are pretty good.

I dont mind some of the salty licorice. I did not expect that from these. My son who loves any style of licorice but will not eat these

I first found Pontefract Cakes when traveling in Great Britain -- heaven for a licorice lover! These have the slightly bitter, not too sweet flavor I remember from Nibs licorice when I was a kid, or the hard, dense stick licorice I was occasionally given for coughs... we stirred a cup of hot water with the licorice stick, then drank the liquid and dried off the stick for the next time.This candy arrived soft, fresh, smelling strongly of licorice and anise, and much sooner than promised. Thanks!EDITED TO ADD: Price on Amazon has almost doubled in less than a week. Not cool.

This is the finest tasting licorice I have ever eaten. One important positive is that it is not too sweet, so the flavor is great.. Very addictive. My son is very particular but he really liked this licorice; for the taste, as well as the low sweetness factor. Will definitely order again....and again.The only downside is that it takes so long to receive the product.

If there is better Pontefract cake out there, I sure would appreciate hearing about it; because there is not much selection here in the US.

First thing my husband and I noticed when the package arrived was a strong, authentic licorice aroma. The candy itself is very soft, not gummy; taste is a pure licorice flavor, not too sweet. My husband loves black licorice and has tried every brand imaginable and he says the Pontefract Cakes are by far the best. Absolutely try them!
