Arizona Kicks on Route 66

A beautiful ride in photos and literary prose
I bought this lovely book as I live in Arizona and wanted to enjoy the ride on Route 66!! I first just enjoyed the remarkable photography of Larry Lindahl whose work I am familiar with - he is renowned for his stunning landscapes of the southwest. This project clearly took him in a new and interesting direction capturing people, cars and places. I thought that the angled shots in the book brought me right into the place that was being unveiled. The combination of photos of each stop along the way coupled with some artistic shots was a great combination for me as I enjoyed the artistry in the layout. Then reading the book was a trip unto itself. I particularly loved the descriptive portraits of the pies - I wanted to go into each place and order a slice myself. I am a creative cook and loved reading about every bite of the foods along the way of this historic route. For me, a good touring book should I decide to get my kicks in with great places to stay and eat along the route. Of course, pie will unquestionably now factor into the equation as I relished the decriptive love and flavors infused in each bite in the book. Even if you do not get behind the wheel and do the road trip, it is a very well written and photographed book about a special part of America that will take you there literally and visually.

A great book for anyone interested in Route 66 in AZ.
Roger Naylor's new book "Arizona Kicks on 66" is for now the standard bearer for anything that might be in the works on Route 66 in Arizona. This book is very good on several fronts: First, while it isn't a coffee table book (only), it still features some of the best photography of the Mother Road out there. Mr. Lindahl's photography simply makes the subject pop off the page; Second, the text is highly readable, informative, and most importantly, places the visited subjects into the context of the road. Mr. Naylor's style is very journalistic, but that really works for the episodic essays on the people and places along Arizona's stretch of Route 66. Clearly Mr. Naylor wrote "Arizona Kicks on Route 66" with a number of audiences in mind. It is great for the Route 66 explorer (it is arranged east-west); it provides enough historical context of the places to be useful to the researcher; Mr. Naylor explored not only the road, but those places within the Route 66 corridor that travelers might use (or might have historically used) Route 66 to reach, and; it certainly helps to explain the grip Route 66 has upon travelers. Lastly- the price. The published price is only $11.95. The images alone are well worth that, but the whole package of the book is quite a value.

Route 66, Arizona was good reading
As much as I would like to spend a month or so exploring Route 66 I don't have the time. I have always been attracted to the open and wondrous looks of Arizona and I wish to see as much of it as possible. The book "Arizona Kicks on Route 66" showed me what to see in vivid colour.

... book in a light and absorbing manner that is like the journey itself
Author Naylor presents another travel book in a light and absorbing manner that is like the journey itself. I found the text at once informative and lightly whimisical with the photos of the highest quality. This book is far superior to the usual Route 66 book written by a very knowlegable friend of the road but with lesser writing skills---this is a well authored and competently written volumn from a journeyman writer who also has extensive knowledge of the Mother Road. Quality all the way in words and pictures. An excellent product.

Great photo's, lovely book
My folks loved this book, they really wanted a nice reminder of their trip down route 66. The images are excellent, great quality photos and a great reminder for them to keep and cherish.I don't like travel books as a rule especially if I haven't had the pleasure of visiting myself, however along with my parents stories and pictures of places they recognised, even I enjoyed looking at it and reading it.For those with an interest in route 66 it's s thumbs up from us.
