Good mattress, but built in topper foam is low quality
Update after 2 years: This mattress is still a great value, but I learned some things after owning it for awhile. The first few months I slept wonderfully on it, and then my back pain came back. Thinking that the foam topper had lost some support, I tried several different mattress pads with varying levels of success. Finally, after sleeping better in a lot of other spots on vacation (firm beds, couches, even a camping pad), I realized that the foam in this mattress just be hurting more than it's helping. Yesterday I tore out the stitching and pulled the foam topper. It's really pretty cheap stuff except for a thin latex pad underneath. The foam doesn't even seem like memory foam - it's what you'd find in a cheap couch cushion. It's very light (I could toss the whole queen size pad no problem), which tells me that it's very low density and wasn't ever providing much support. After tearing that out and just sleeping on the springs with the padded top, I feel better. The pocketed coils still seem good. The big lesson here is you get what you pay for - with a bargain like this the manufacturer cheaped out on something. If you're a bargain hunter, figure out what that thing is and replace it with quality.Original review:I've been aching (literally) over what mattress to get for months. I originally tried a fancy brand name bed in a box (Brooklyn Bedding Signature) which I found too firm. I then tried a latex topped spring mattress from a local discount store. That was also a mistake - too soft. I was waking up with horrible lower back pain each morning because my hips would sink in too much in that soft mattress. For context, I'm a 28 year old 6' 165lb male. I've found it's very important to keep a reviewer's body size and shape in mind when mattress shipping - larger people tend to find beds firm where skinny people find them soft. This particular mattress hit me right in the Goldilocks zone. I sink in a little bit, but I can feel the support where I need it in my spine. I've had my best sleep this year on this mattress. There's also a decent amount of bounce from the springs which I like. The thing I didn't realize about this mattress is that it has a layer of memory foam under the latex. This actually makes it super comfortable because the foam contours to you ever so slightly without sleeping hot, and it instantly bounces back because of the latex.I've had this mattress for just a couple weeks; going to start testing it against another one from Amazon and will post results.

So different from what I'm used to.
For years, decades in fact, I have slept on firm to extra firm mattresses. O.k. at first, but, as time wears on I felt a need for something a little more kind to my body. At 76 with full body arthritis and fairly severe COPD, I couldn't handle the too firm mattresses anymore. Being fairly recently widowed I found that this mattress search was all on me so I proceeded with caution. I've read reviews for days for all kinds of mattresses and companies reputations, etc. Frankly, it had to fit a tight budget too. I caught the Linen spa ad, found the size I needed and began my reading. All this 'hybrid' stuff was new to me and just seemed strange. I read all the reviews posted, siphoned through the pros and cons and decided to take a chance. I live alone, no family close by so this was going to be a leap for me. I bought it, it came early which was nice since I was really needing a decent nights sleep. If I was in better condition the whole thing would have taken me 15-20 minutes at most to get it in, unpacked, unwrapped and letting it decompress. For me it took a few hours but I persevered and got it done. I kept thinking "Oh goody, I've bought a bed in a box, rolled up and flat as a pancake, and it's supposed to magically fluff up and actually work!" I finally got the box into the bedroom, walking it inch by inch and slowly got it positioned on the platform frame. Finally got it out of the box and the wrapping off (that compressed mattress did look pretty neat all flattened) but I'm still thinking "what have I gotten myself into here". After having to rest for a bit, I saw that it did, indeed, decompress fully and was looking pretty good. I let it stay like that for several hours to make sure it was finished. I finally got my bedding put on and when my bedtime came I got into it. My first thought was hoping I hadn't made mistake getting the med. firm. This seemed fairly soft to me. I'm a large woman with continuing weight problems also (thanks to big pharma and steroidal meds). I laid there for a few trying to decide if this was really going to work. I realized several minutes in that nothing was hurting and my breathing seemed to be just a tat easier. O.k., I'm thinking, let's see if this is going to last. That was the last thing I remember until 5 hours later when I woke up and still nothing was hurting and I hadn't woken up once to reach for my rescue inhaler! That hadn't happened in ages. This bed in a box thing just might work for me after all. For now I'm going to pat myself on the back and tell me "ya' did good kid". LOL If it doesn't work out in the long run I'll come back and say so, but I think this is going to be a good thing.

Soft
Update: 2 years laterIt’s way too hot to sleep on and constantly waking up due to motion feel when my husband rolls over. We went back to king and got a better matress. This is still good for a couple years if you don’t want to spend thousands on a new matress. For a mattress I purchased online without trying first, I am very pleased to say the least. The mattress comes in a box and inflates on its own within a day. I didn't notice any weird odor, its incredibly soft yet firm. I have a neck injury and my back used to be always sore. With this mattress I don't have that problem. The only thing I noticed with this mattress if your partner is turning a lot during the night you will feel the weave of movement throughout the night. But, its not memory foam so I didn't expect it to be perfect in terms of sensing movement. All in all, I am happy with this purchase. Bought it when it was on sale for $300 for California king size. Best deal I could find for a decent mattress.

IF YOU SLEEP HOT KEEP LOOKING!!
UPDATE: AS HOT AS MEMORY FOAM.Even with wool topper laid for summer-cool breathability, cool bamboo sheets, and even ice packs to pre-cool the mattress, this thing is BAKING HOT by morning. By 3-4am, I'm shifting constantly looking for a cool spot esp. for shoulders and hips. Wool topper keeps unused areas cool, but it doesn't last, esp. on a twin bed.Even tried flip-side of mattress thinking coil springs without foam might be better. But flip-side is only poly/plastic material, no tencel. Doesn't breath. Mattress not really reversible but I figure it couldn't be any worse. One night. Still hot by morning. There should be consumer/medical studies done to test hot mattresses for risks of vascular damage. Also 3wks later and presumably fully expanded, mattress still has dome-like top surface. Foam bows from high and thick in center to thin at edges. Until your body starts settling on the mattress you feel like you're about to roll off any minute.Cheap price but utter waste of money.*****************INITIAL REVIEW:Don't know what "temperature neutral" is supposed to mean but it doesn't mean a cool mattress. It's not as hot as memory foam but even with cool "Tencel" fabric this still gets quite warm by morning, warm enough that even after adding a 1" wool topper (laid with summer cool cotton up) and it's still warm-ish by morning where I sink most. Spring does recover quickly which helps you shift as you sleep but I'm still shifting a few times a night which doesn't make for the best sleep. On the plus side, looks well made (surface material and construction), expanded to full size quickly, and smell mostly gone after 48hrs (but does still have noticeable residual odor when sleeping on stomach). And it's cheap, not the cheapest, but comparatively cheap. It's also "cool-ER" than memory foam... but just barely.
