Works well until it breaks
It’s a great ligature however; after daily playing it for a year and a half, it just broke while placing another reed on my mouthpiece. Very unfortunate however; I will purchase this BG duo again and hope that the next one holds up. It is a good ligature to have in your gear. I can only hoe the next one last longer. Hopefully I can get a discount on the next one.

Tricky fit but good sound and response.
I always figured that the Meyer NY was a standard size alto saxophone mothpiece. And, I have been cautgh up in more than one saxophone accessory scavenger hunt. I saw/heard some players that i liked playing on these and, while I'm old enough and smart enough to know that there's a lot more to saxophone sound than the instrument and the the things that hold the reed in place. But, I had the money (they're not cheap) and I had the time to work with something new so... what the heck. First, the build quality. it is excellent. I like a single screw ligature for ease of adjustment on the instrument and I like it to "stay put" once placed. This one does. What it doesn't do is fit the mouthpiece well from the outset. The ridges which keep the mouthpiece slightly away from the ligature are a good concept and they work well on some other ligatures. On this one, the thickness of the metal requires some bending and pushing, etc to get the ligature fitting firmly on the piece. It is made of some strong metal. Once this is accomplished with a reed on the table, I was very happy with the performance of the ligature. Quick movement during a measure rest was no problem at all and it stayed where I put it.There are those that don't and there are those where the mouthpiece stays and the reed comes off. This is not one of those. A teacher of mine said, with regard to ligatures, "I think that everybody ought to have one." With the above qualifications, I believe that he is right. Whether you want to spend the required $$$ for one is your business. For this one, I believe it is worth the money if you have it. If you don't, there are more than a few that work well. They may not be as well made or look quite as cool but, it's your decision.

One more for the ligature box
This is an okay ligature but is it hit or miss on sealing reeds to the table.I always do a suctions test and I am ready to rock. With this ligature it does not offer a complete seal on every reed. When it does seal WOW, but when it doesn't it will make a $5 reed and $500 MP sound like trash on every note. Now with a Silverstein works ligature all reeds seal and voicing is better on a Silverstein, but at a higher cost.I would say if you have to buy a $100 ligature go with Silverstein lower model which is better than their top model.BG DUO will not move your reed around when adjusting the mouthpiece. The Silvestein will slide off adjusting your mouthpiece if you leave off the rubber feet.BG DUO dual pulling screw is outstanding, I do like this feature BG DUO is overpriced for a ligature that is hit or miss on sealing reedsI do not recommend this ligature for a price over $65. Wait for sales or buy it used. And the different colors plating for different voicing...is a joke.

Review
Excellent ligature. Fits a wider range of mouthpiece diameters. It hold the reed securely. I only gave it 3 stars for value for the money because I think all ligatures are over priced. But, in the world of over priced ligatures, this one stands out.

Very Cool Looking Ligature!
This was my first "upgraded" ligature purchase - I read the reviews, yet frankly I liked the way it looked - stylist (Gold Plated with Red Accent). It is easier to put on, and take off, compared to the standard ligature that came with the horn, yet I'm not sure if it actually makes a difference in terms of my sound. I'm currently using it with a Selmer S-80 C* Mouthpiece for Alto Saxophone. I like the combination!

Good for Sax, not so much for Clarinet
This ligature worked well for my Selmer alto sax mouthpiece, however it is NOT the right size and shape to fit Clarinet mouthpieces. On Clarinet, it doesn't go on easily, has to be pushed and over-tightened to conform to clarinet mouthpieces. The steel is flexible and light. On sax and clarinet, it facilitates an open sound and makes the Reed vibrate freely. That's great for good reeds, not so great for bad reeds. For unbalanced reeds, a heavier ligature works better. This ligature is not designed to be tightened much. I haven't found that my reeds get any markings from the ligature. It also has rubber stand-offs on the reverse to prevent sliding about. Not sure how long those will last... will update.

Great ligature
Tried couple ligatures back to back. This one did not bring anything new to the table compared to my optimum. Great ligatir though !

Great all-round ligature
This ligature is worth the price. The "floating" design allows the reed to vibrate freely while also securely holding the reed on the mouthpiece. Pairs great with small chamber mouthpieces when you need more power in your sound but also works with medium chamber pieces.

Overpriced and not very good
This is basically a terrible design. It doesn’t hold the reed securely in a good fit. It’s an outrageous price for something that doesn’t do a good job. On the plus side - it looks good. On the negative - virtually everything else. Avoid. Vandoren ligatures are much better.
