A Great Look Into The Past!!
I can tell how popular this book is by the number of reviews!! Plus the latest one is dated 2014!! (-:Anyway - There is a lot of interesting things in this book as far as what the aftermarket had to offer for these motorcycles in 1979. I had a new 1980 YZ-465G when I was young and there were quite a few IT's around back then - And I wanted to have one of those too!! The IT's had lights so they could be made "street-legal" here by applying for a title. I believe they had an actual speedometer on the older models too and not just a trip-meter like the later models. And that tool bag on the back fender was pretty cool as well with the word "YAMAHA" on it. In having a recent "mid-life" or maybe "late-life" crisis, I bought a 1982 IT-465 that I am restoring. And I bought this book thinking there might be some useful information in it for me. There were a few informative things - but mostly it's a fun look at how things were done in the past. The book explains the heritage or Yamaha's YZ and IT models starting with the 250cc DT-1 model. This book does cover the YZ models a lot more than the IT models. The chapter I was most excited to read is called "Chris Carter and Yamaha Enduro" until I read it... It basically says to replace all the parts you can on your IT model with parts from the YZ model... Or better yet - Skip the IT altogether and just buy a YZ and put the tank and lighting system from an IT on it.That's not really telling you how to "Prepare the Yamaha IT for Competition" is it??"The best way to prepare your motorcycle for competition is to get another one." is not exactly what I was hoping for!! But it shows and explains what the aftermarket had to offer back then in pretty good detail from wheels, tires and suspension to carburetors. This was the 1st time I've ever heard of the Lectron carburetor with it's flat slide. And parts from Moto-X-Fox are shown with a chapter on Moto-X-Fox modified Yamaha's. The chapter called "Riding with the Hurricane" is pretty good too where Bob Hannah shows us how it's done. (-: Overall I enjoyed reading this book and I did learn a few things. It is a great look into the past!! Just don't expect a lot of specific advice if you have an IT model!! (-:

Fun old fart reading
I like old dirt bikes, and I suppose if someone was racing an old YZ the book could be helpful but I bought it just for fun.
