Misleading description. The wording implies that the cold shoe "adapter" can be removed, and the device screwed into a tripod or monopod mount, which it cannot. I had hoped that this device could serve both purposes, but it cannot. Cold shoe mount only.That being said, it is very solid, all metal construction, and very well made. I will keep it and will use it, but will just have to buy another device that can be mounted to a tripod/monopod. This would be useful for mounting an audio recorder to the top of a DSLR, for example.

I bought this item to modify my cheap Promaster flash bracket for macro photography.I had previously purchased a couple of slightly larger ball heads without cold shoe adapters, not realizing that they wouldn't fit flush on the bracket with the cold shoe removed.This item is small and light and when sufficiently tightened down, adequately stable for the purpose for which I purchased it.It's more than good enough to mount a modest sized speedlight.I would recommend this product in the future.
