Impressive
First of all, there are plenty of other folding knives I would recommend before this one for a few reasons, but despite that, I would still recommend this. It's become the fourth knife in my pocket after my Schrade SCH501, CRKT Pilar, and FORESAIL. KA-BAR isn't known for its low prices. It's known for its more reasonable or high prices. When you consider that they're the same company as Cutco, you form a picture that they make kid-to-high-priced, reliable, high-quality knives. The last thing I expected was a super inexpensive folder that basically competes with Spyderco. I've been impressed with it so far in quite a few ways. First, the AUS-8A steel is really good, being an excellent upgrade from the venerable mid-tier AUS-8. Second, it seems like they've heat treated it really well, because it feels solid as a rock. Third, it's fully ambidextrous, which is nice to see even though it's not generally a factor for me. A fourth, the locking and folding actions are really well done and feel solid. My only complaint is that it's not easy to deploy one-handed. It can be done, but it's harder than most of my other knives, so it's not the one I go to if I only have one hand available. Everything else is either great, or acceptable as part of this type of design. Like Spyderco knives, the body is entirely made of polymer. That's just an artifact of this entire style of knife, so it's not a nitpick. If that's the kind of knife you like, this is a good option for you. Overall, the fit and finish is really good, and despite its light weight, it feels like it's worth what I paid for it—and then some. I wouldn't put it to any hard tasks, and I won't take it into the wild, but it's excellent as an EDC knife in town performing light tasks, just like most Spyderco knives. It fills the same niche. If you want a good, reliable pocket knife that won't let you down, I'm going to recommend some others first, but then I'll also recommend this one.

My 2 cents on the KA-BAR Dozier Hunter
I actually purchased this KA-BAR Dozier Hunter with thumb stud before I purchased the KA-BAR Dozier Folding Hunter Knife with Thumb Notch I reviewed previously. I read some of reviews previous to buying it but it was attractive enough to me to buy it despite some owners complaining about the deployment of the knife. After owning it for two days I'm surprised at how some complained about it. Upon receiving the knife I gave it my customary small spray of Ballistol lubricant at the blade pivot point and the lock back notch on the blade, worked it in for a few minutes, and by day's end was opening the blade with a quick flick of the thumb stud with ease. Thumb studs just aren't for everyone and it does take some practice with different knives and actions to become proficient at recognizing varying actions and applying the technique to different knives. I own many knife models so have become used to seeing what works best with what blades. Spring assisted opening knives have become popular just for this reason. While I do own a few as it seems that Kershaw employs this feature in many of their new models the past few years, for the most part I dislike them and prefer the old tried and true thumb studs, blade holes, or nail nick style folders. Using and carrying the Dozier Hunter for a couple days I found it an utter joy to work with. It's a very light, fast deploying, no nonsense folder that while probably not suited for tactical or outdoor batoning of medium to large log use, fills the bill wonderfully as an EDC blade for everyday cutting chores. AUS-8 steel while not the most exotic steel one might ask for is very serviceable in a knife of this kind and lends to the budget price of many knives in the category of the Dozier. It has medium to good edge retention using it for most chores, sharpens very easy; sometimes only needing stropping to bring the edge back, and is pretty rust resistant with proper care. The pocket clip serves well, is easily reversed as is the thumb stud to the opposite side for lefties, but can't be moved to the pivot end for tip down carry (not a deal breaker for me). The handle scales are Zytel and while not G10 afford good traction in my hand while not being too rough and sharp so as to be uncomfortable using it. Comparing the Dozier to other knives in its class I would have no problem recommending it to anyone. If you're not that proficient with thumb studs or find them awkward as some do, the Dozier thumb hole model might work better for you although I personally prefer the Hunter with the thumb stud. All in all however you just can't go wrong with either blade at less than $20 as and every day pocket knife..

Good quality inexpensive knife
Everybody doesn't need a $150 knife. Everybody doesn't even want a $150 knife. This Dozier design folder is cheap but worthy of consideration if all one wants or needs is a basic locking knife that doesn't cost a fortune. Lightweight due to the linerless design, sharp due to the good quality AUS8 steel of the blade and ergonomic by design.I own a lot of expensive folders and honestly don't carry this knife. But, being a collector, I bought one just to see if it's as good as people have reported. It is. It won't replace my expensive knives but I like it.

Simplicity in purposeful design, light weight, superb build quality and functionality ...
For the same price, you can buy a bigger, heavier, even sturdier folding pocket knives. Where this knife excels is simplicity in purposeful design, functionality and superb build quality. The three inch knife blade is made of AUS 8 steel and blade geometry is drop point with hollow grind, very useful shape for general EDC use and came factory sharp ready to go. The overall build quality is superb and does not have any liner in the Zytel handle which is fine for small pocket knife. It had only one thumb stud but it can be reversed for lefty use. Traditional lock back engages and disengages smoothly with fairly strong detente. The whole thing is held together with one pin that anchors the lock back mechanism, one large Torx screw that holds together the back end and the pocket clip and one Torx pivot screw that holds the blade in place at the front end. There are no unnecessary use of metals or screws and the knife simply feels solid despite its light weight. With slight adjustment of the pivot, you can flick this knife with one hand but it is bit stiff. What this knife is a well executed modern interpretation of a simple, functional, dependable folder pocket knife from a bygone era from the likes of Case, Buck, Barlow, and Schrade. I would recommend this knife highly to anyone looking for a well built, simple, light weight pocket knife without a lot of bells and whistles.

Well-deserved reputation
I have seen several videos of this knife, and it indeed punches way above it's weight. A budget workhorse indeed. Not a flipper. Very solid because of the lockback. Scales are very hard too.
