Not fit for children
My nephew is 5 and very interested in Sharks, so I gave him a stuffed Shark, which he loves, and this book. I was reading him this story at bed time as he hugged his beloved stuffed Shark, when I turned a page to see a basket of dismembered fins! I was shocked and disgusted! My nephew was very upset and couldn't sleep for worrying about his new friend Shark, and he kept getting up and coming to tell me his shark was frightened. What kind of thoughtless mind would put this political garbage in a CHILDREN's book???? It's just shocking and makes me very angry. I think the company responsible should lose their right's to piggyback on the fame of a genius like Dr. Suess. I strongly recommend that you DO NOT buy this book for a child. It isn't suited for a child.

Suess would be rolling in his grave.
Rhyming is terrible, very feeble attempt at copying Suess’ writing style and fails horribly. Reading it to my 4 year old, often would make up rhymes that fit better. Further, the book is long in the tooth about things that kids just won’t understands. A section on skin grafts? Are you serious? Then the whole enviro-radical message at the end with dead shark pictures, hacked up fins and shark soup (how do you make that rhyme). Try explaining dead sharks hanging on hooks to a 4 year old. Totally unnecessary. I give it 2 stars as there is some valuable info about different sharks but this is NOT Suess.

Incredible educational shark book for any age.
I cannot express how much I LOVE this book! A fantastic educational book about sharks, it teaches children not only to respect them as a species but as individuals. Learn about a great number of different sharks, their characteristics, skills, habits, habitats, and what makes one type different from another. Hark, A Shark teaches vocabulary (which can be seen in the glossary). It truly makes learning fun by giving sharks awards ("Least fussy eater", "Longest life", "Fastest", "Smallest", and "Coolest move" to name a few). The book also addresses how sharks are becoming endangered because of man's hunting them for useless products. It encourages youth to not fear but to save a shark!

They actually politicized this book at the end...
The rhyming is terrible-- they are just stringing words and sentences together trying to get everything to fit in a rhyme. The rhyming is horrible and annoying! I don't read it. I basically just summarize what the words say instead of reading it word for word. They also end up telling kids to say yuck and NO to shark fin soup at the end, which is really culturally insensitive and amazingly offensive towards the part of the world that eats food that is different than what Americans eat-- eating different food doesn't make it wrong!Americans eat beef-- if someone told kids not to eat beef and that it's "yucky," I'm sure Americans would have a fit! I'm sorely disappointed in this book

A PERFECT BLEND OF FUN AND EDUCATION - PERFECT FOR HOMESCHOOLING
The Cat in the Hat Learning Library books are fantastic! Each book is incredibly educational while also being fun and engaging. It’s a winning combination. I can not recommend them highly enough. We have bought nearly all of the books. Even though my younger daughter has aged past them, she insists we keep buying them and will not part with them. This is a bit of a bone of contention in my house, because my older daughter teaches and wants them in her classroom. Our compromise is that my older daughter sneaks out one book at a time on an as-needed basis - and brings it right back! Before you read these books, you should probably start with:The Cat in the HatThe Cat in the Hat Comes BackHere are the Cat in the Hat Learning Library books as of 11/26/19, in order of release date:Is a Camel a Mammal?: All About MammalsFine Feathered Friends: All About BirdsWish for a Fish: All About Sea CreaturesOh Say Can You Say Di-no-saur?: All About DinosaursOn Beyond Bugs: All About InsectsThere’s No Place Like Space!: All About Our Solar SystemOh Say Can You Seed?: All About Flowering PlantsOh the Things You Can Do That are Good for You!: All About Staying HealthyA Great Day for Pup: All About Wild BabiesThere’s a Map on My Lap!: All About MapsIf I Ran the Rainforest: All About Tropical RainforestsInside Your Outside!: All About the Human BodyOh Say Can You Say What’s the Weather Today: All About WeatherOh, the Pets You Can Get!: All About Our Animal FriendsClam-I-Am!: All About the BeachI Can name 50 Trees Today: All About TreesA Whale of a Tale: All About Porpoises, Dolphins, and WhalesMy Oh My - a Butterfly: All About ButterfliesOne Cent, Two Cents, Old Cent, New Cent: All About MoneyMiles and Miles of Reptiles: All About ReptilesWould You Rather Be a Pollywog: All About Pond LifeIce Is Nice: All About the North and South PolesWhy Oh Why are Deserts DrySafari, So Good!: All About African WildlifeIf I Ran the Dog Show: All About DogsIf I Ran the Horse Show: All About HorsesHark! Keeping it real!
Great book as always! Side note: I love how this book doesn’t sugar coat what is really happening to the sharks and our current ecosystem. Kids (and adults) need to know the true story and this book simply puts it out there! Save our oceans! Stop shark fin soup. So Dumb...I can’t stand what is happening to the sharks and all species of the sea. I could go on and on. But this book really is a great informative read.

Very underwhelming
We have the "Inside Your Outside", which my kids (especially ages 2-7) enjoy. Most of the rhymes are reasonable and I don't mind reading it even though it's clearly not Dr. Seuss quality. This book, however, is pretty bad! It DOES have some interesting shark facts, but the rhymes are not good at all. Even my shark-loving boy won't sit through it, and he can't read it honestly because of all the strange shark-specific words. The worst part, as other reviewers said, is that it turns preachy at the end. My kids just wanted to learn about sharks, they don't care at all about eating shark fin soup, nor will they likely ever even encounter it where we live. All in all, I wish I'd left this behind and bought a National Geographic book instead which would have at least had good pictures of real sharks.

Awesome book about sharks!
This is super educational, all about sharks. I think it's a great book to read to the little ones and the older kids, and for the even older kids to read to themselves. The Cat in the Hat books are a bit longer, more factual info, but toddlers will like it too. I enjoyed reading it as well because I learned from it too!
