Ferrell and Company...In over their heads in another Dimension
This spoof-satire is one of my favorite Ferrell flicks with an outstanding supporting cast working with an outlandish, mind-blowingly impossible script. If your hope is to see something based on reality then I suggest you look elsewhere. If you have ever seen the TV show it was based on (which was equally unbelievable) it uses that as a touchstone but takes that to a whole new level of craziness. We begin with Dr. Rick Marshall (Ferrell) as a scientist that develops some theories of time-travel. Although he gets some fame/infamy it seems like his theories are soon discredited and his career path has fallen to the level of working at the La Brea Tar Pits doing scientific demonstrations for children's field trips (poorly) and validating parking in his spare time (see DVD extras for some hilarious deleted scenes). He puts his machine together and gets convinced by the closest thing to a straight-man in the film, Holly Cantrell (played by the lovely and talented Anna Friel) who is not only virtuous and intelligent but has seemingly-unshakable faith in Dr. Marshall, to try it out. They are led by his Tachyon Meter to one of those weird middle of nowhere "pray that the people passing by here stop" attractions Devil's Canyon Mystery Cave run by none other than Danny McBride. McBride plays his usual wannabe tough guy/trailer trash character, named Will Stanton in this case, who with his own brand of under-informed vanity, is a comedic gold match-up with Ferrell's character. To cut to the chase they are soon transported to another time, with past, present and future mixed up in a wonderfully weird/oblique way, where they immediately encounter and save the life of their simian-human companion/resident tour guide Chaka, Jorma Taccone, who seems to be either leading them to danger or safety (it is often hard to tell if he just helped or hurt them or figure out his motives). The interactions of this unlikely crew with all of the dinosaurs, lizard people, time portals, etc... as they try to alternately explore, escape and survive this bizarre new world makes up the rest of the movie complete with a sequence where they consume some type of narcotic substance in this strange desert landscape and have a trippy yet somehow bonding pool party, as if it wasn't weird enough.I loved it and my wife (who thinks many comedies I like are stupid/ridiculous) and my kids loved it which is rare for all of us to like the same movie so much. If having to choose between "Anchorman", "Talladega Nights","Step Brothers" or "Land of the Lost" again I think "LotL" is the funniest as far as laughing out loud goes. For what it's worth I didn't really like "Blades of Glory" or "Semi-Pro" that much and I'd generally avoid seeing them again. Ferrell has developed and cultivated this character that plows/stumbles through these situations , sometimes unintentionally, with the opposite of traditional leading man virtues. "Land of the Lost" is a great vehicle for his type of character. Ferrell is at his best when he is in over his head and this movie has seemingly endless opportunities for that. He comes up with nonsensical solutions (at least everybody in the audience realizes they are) and bravely, or crazily, tries to pull them off. Somehow or another he gets to the other side, and that is the fun part. The ending has two great setups for a sequel so hopefully some brave producer will get behind it someday soon.

Hallucinogen simulator 2009
Have you ever wondered what it was like to do drugs but didn't actually want to do drugs? or risk getting in trouble for having drugs? or losing your job because of drugs? Then this movie is for you. It's like whoever created this movie threw a bunch of random ideas at the wall and see what sticks, and then went with that, plus everything else that didn't, the end result being a movie that only Will Farrell could star in. The story is one that gets weirder, but more interesting at the same time, with a small segment you just have to grind your way through, the kind of movie where the last few ideas blew the budget, so they had to improvise. a good chunk of the film had excellent special effects and comedy sequences, while having quite a few of what could only be described as the cinematic equivalent of fingerprints on an otherwise clean sheet of glass (referencing the lizard people). Then again, this film is from 2009, CGI has come a LOOONG way since then. Either way, when you have a movie as loosely strung together as this one, I guess it is quite unfair to expect a cinematic marvel, so just sit back and enjoy, have a good laugh, and keep your expectations low.All in all, what they did well, they did REALLY well, but took a toll elsewhere. I do feel like they could have gone down a better path near the end, but I'm not about to sit here and complain for the next hour, as my complaining will not change anything about this film, and will only waste your time to read.

big boys have to to to bed
Put your kids to bed, this one is not for babies eyes. Favorite movie ever, just behind step brothers, dead man and some of the star wars. I'm still looking to decapitate a clam, via my blade.

Wasn't half bad
This movie was based upon one of my favorite kids’ TV shows growing up. It wasn’t half bad as a new interpretation. Will Ferrell and Danny McBride are two of the stars and they have plenty of funny moments. There are also a couple of scenes that seem like they came right out of an acid trip like when they see a giant crab crawling towards them and then it falls through the surface only to pop out perfectly boiled and ready to eat! This obviously came from someone who was high. I have to say I wasn’t expecting anything from Land of the Lost and was pleasantly surprised.

Be a clown,all the world loves a clown-cole porter
I ain't easy to make me laugh. Years may go without me laughing -oh I,m amused but not broken up with uncontrollable guffas until I must force myself to stop or die of a heart attack! This movie is hysterical, even after several viewings and will farrell is hystericall and every one in this flick is terrific. Several reviews bad mouth this comedy so either I'm nuts-or the reviewers are nuts. As actor Robert Blake points out "if you know you're nuts-you ain't nuts but if you don't think you're nuts you are nuts." I rest my case and throw myself upon the mercy of the court." Let me put it this way, if you ain't laughing you there is something wrong with one of us!

Funny movie that was not aimmed at kids
I found the movie to be pretty funny and random.it's about a scientist who is laughed out of his career due to a freak out over a comment about his theorys and how "steven hawkings" called his theory's of warp portals "idiotic"what it leads to is a group of funny cast members tossed into a warp portal to "the land of the lost" where you have dinosaurs, strange bugs, monkey people, and a huge crab.movie is honestly not intended for small children like some 1 star comments are crying about."pg-13" look at ratings peeps.all and all pretty damn funny.p.spaul the top critical comment can suck a butt cheek.

You don't just dive into the devils cave…
This film is a real mixed bag. From the very opening 1970’s Universal logo you know this isn’t going to be a simple ride. The plot centres around Dr. Rick Marshall (Will Ferrell) who has a parallel world theory that might solve the energy crisis, but he is ridiculed and falls into obscurity. Jump 3 years into the future and enter cute Cambridge graduate Holly Cantrell (Anna Friel) who shows proof that his theory actually works. We then follow the pair who are joined by a failed theme park owner and a primitive ape man [chaka] as they try to get back to our ‘normal’ world and get Chaka home. The film is shot with a predominantly B-Movie feel and uses 70's style effects with strong bold colours, there are rubber suited lizard–men that would not be out of place in the late 50’s or 60’s and with the psychedelic background props [cars sticking vertically out of the ground like tombstones etc] it plays like a Salvador Dali painting in places. It’s weird and wacky which is the intent, but somehow it tries too hard and misses the mark. The un-necessary swearing raises the age bracket –which is a shame as it may have worked as a straight up kids film, but they’ve made the adult humour too obvious and so it tends to fail all around. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed watching it for the fun, tongue in cheek ‘it’s so bad it’s almost good’ approach, but it didn’t quite pull it off.The problem is that the film makes its pitch but doesn’t know who to aim it at. With swearing and obvious adult humour [mauling of female breasts etc] it excludes the young, but the trite acting and slapstick style with intentionally dated effects will also alienate others. The disc offers little else with only a scene selection, play, and the three deleted scenes are basically a waste of time. It’s not up to Ferrells other movies but it is watchable, but only if you’ve nothing better to do or just want some mindless popcorn for the brain.

A miss understood film
I have just watched 'Land of the Lost' and i was curious to find out what everyone else thought about it. As i was expecting to see a family, comedy film i was pleasantly surprised that it was not just your ordinary clichéd family movie but something aimed for a slightly older audience. This maybe why it was so poorly received. Looking at trailers and TV spots, this movie did really look like just another pointless summer blockbuster, which may have appealed to all you people looking for something family friendly. But for me i was so thrilled to be watching something that is just plain FUN! That's all it is! just fun, fun, fun! You people that have posted nothing but negative comments about this title don't know a great movie if it slapped you in the face. so relax a little, sit back again and realise that your watching another fantastic movie from will ferrell, and lets face it: when has will ferrell released a movie for families? (excluding ELF) Just stop your complaining and enjoy a non-stop, exciting, unpredictable movie that has everything you could ask for. and even more----what do you really expect from a movie based on a TV show created by someone who practically lived off acid? Three words to sum up this movie: trippy, adventurous and fun!

So Bad it is not bad
The lead actor Will Ferrell is not as funny as he thinks. Is this a case of American humour? Anna Friel does her best. The story is not too bad, but the T Rex is the star of the show with regard to comedy. I gave it three stars as it could have been better

One of my favs with Blu Ray quality
In my opinion this is a comedy classic - I know it is not to everyones taste but I just love the humour on this one. I almost place it in the Nat Lampoons Christmas Vacation category as a film you can always dip in to and find so many funny lines and no matter where you find yourself in the film there is always a part where you can still enjoy the punchline even after viewing it many times.Picture and sound quality are very good and there is a very good selection of extras. Highly recommended.

Good fun
I first saw "Land of the Lost" when my sister had a sleepover and I wasn't having a great time, but then I started watching the film with them and found it very entertaining and amusing. For a couple of weeks after watching the film, lots of funny quotes from the film kept repeating themselves in my head and made me laugh, so I found the item and decided that it was worth buying, and it's really cheap too :)
