It works but you may have to tap the tool in on first use
There was a little bead of metal inside that would not let the tool fit in the shaft on initial use.I used a piece of wood to tap the tool in and now it goes in and out as expected. This works as well as any spike wrench with the tools stored safely in the handle (the 1st tool has to go in shaft 1st).Remember to use some lubricant to soak the mud before removing the spikes, I soak my soles in water (some people spray WD40)

Made a difficult job easy!
I first tried removing my soft spikes by hand, and after an hour of painstaking frustration, decided to check Amazon to see what products are available. This tool had fairly high ratings, so I purchased it. It came this week and I was able to complete the job with ease. The ratchet feature of this tool makes it especially helpful. Was able to remove and replace new spikes with ease. Would highly recommend this tool when replacing soft spikes.

Excellent tool!
Much better than the thin handled wrenches.. Able to get better leverage on the cleets..

This tool is a Champ!
Great tool! Struggled getting old spikes out because the spikes were very worn. Had to drill out spike holes on a few but I expected that. Once that was done the tool was a champ!

I figured out after this didn't work that the best way to remove the smashed in spike was to ...
This will not rip the imbedded spike out of your shoe. I figured out after this didn't work that the best way to remove the smashed in spike was to drill a hole (into the existing holes of the old spike) that were the same size as the original hole and remove with any conventional spike removal tool. Took me around 10 minutes to remove and replace the badly smashed in spikes from both shoes by doing this. No need to buy this supposed "ripper" device. The cheapest two-hole spike tool's all you need if you drill new holes into the spikes.

Will try a suggestion. At first not pleased at all.
I was going to return it until I read that a buyer had to tap in the attachment at first. I found the same thing so now will use a little mallet to gently push it in. Fingers crossed! Besides that, I would think the instructions are self evident but it would help to have some.
