These appeared to be stamped and not drilled or machined.
I have one of this style drill gauge that is at least 50 years old and probably US made. The difference in quality is this: if I put a new drill of known size in my old gauge, there's no question which hole the drill fits in without any slop or force. On these new gauges, the fit is not so good; on some holes a little force is required to go in the proper hole. Not a problem when you already know the size of the drill a priori, but then again you really don't need a gauge. The problem comes in when you have an unknown size and the drill can be forced into one hole or be a sloppy in another hole... so which is it? Definitely not for "machinist" work, but if you're like me and close is ok most of the time, these work

Heavy duty 4141
D4141 bit gauges. I haven't used the product yet, but I can tell instantly that I like the gauge of metal. I have other drillbit indicators that are both plastic and thin metal, and never really liked those. I have read other reviews where individuals were uncomfortable with not being able to see the size stampings. It's not really an issue for me, but I might try to fill in the areas with an oil based black sharpie... and then sand surface down, leaving the readout indicators more visible.

Lettered: fine. Numbered and Fractional: awful.
I don't like writing negative reviews, and it doesn't happen often, but unfortunately this is one. I received this item in good condition -- no damage to cause poor fit. I bought this set for its lettered gauge, and fortunately all of the lettered gauge indexes are tight and well-toleranced. I cannot say the same at all for the other two gauges. The quality control is disappointingly low -- approximately 60% of the numbered and fractional gauge indexes are wrong and in some cases wrong by two or even three drill sizes. As an example, the #29 hole is so oversized that a #26 fits in it. A few are tight, but many I tested are way off. The fractional set should have been easier to make since the divisions are larger, yet in the small range (1/16, 5/64, etc.), each index hole permits the next size larger bit to fit in it. This is unacceptable, and unfortunately those two gauges will become scrap metal for some project.I don't need ridiculously tight tolerances, but a precision instrument this is not. I'm just relieved that the lettered set (what I bought this for) just happened to be well-manufactured.2/5 stars for what would have been a return at Amazon's expense had THE one of three I cared about not worked. Caveat emptor.

Well worth it.
Great product. Wish the engravings were painted but not a big deal.

Good quality for the price
thought material could have been a little thicker

Great tool
Well made accurate and easy to use. He must for anyone needing accurate sizing on drillbits

Very capable drill gauge.
Why is thickness and sheerness? A feature to be rated? As a drill gauge it works fine. I have collected hundreds of orphaned bits over the years and my eyesight is not as good as it used to be plus it’s thick and really sheer.

ENGRAVING VERY HARD TO READ
Awesome quality. However, I can not read the very fine engraved lettering without a magnifying glass or tilt just right into the light... Wish the engraved numbers had some sort of paint in them so I could read them without having to struggle:(. Other than this, product is above all other expectations.
