Adorable vocabulary building book
Super cute book! American customers be advised that there are British English versions of vocabulary, didn't bother us, just an FYI.

A large and wide vocabulary is the key to a child's success!
I have a baby granddaughter who has family members who only speak Spanish. I bought the Spanish version of this first and then realized that having identical copies, as far as the illustrations, but with captions in both English and Spanish, would give her a even better head start in learning both languages. I think this is a series best used with adult and child working together. I like that there are 'layers' of learning activities so that the books will be useful up through the early elementary school years. There are suggestions for parents for learning activities. Be aware that there is a (white cover??) copy of this book that is in British English ( a truck is a lorry; an apartment is a flat; a car trunk is a boot, etc.) Ask the seller if you're not sure and you want American English.

Very satisfying.
This is a sturdy edition, with attractive images for children. As a foreign buyer from a non-English speaking country, it has been hard for me to find books containing such large vocabulary, without any translations - which I find undesirable during the learning process of children. If one considers that about 8k words is considered by many professionals as educated native speaker competence, purchasing a book with 1000 words already seems like a good investment.

Wonderful book for words and pictures
I found this book to be just what i wanted for my 33 month old grandchild. Covered all sorts of scenes with many words. nice index of words in alphabetical order with page number you can find a word and picture you are searching for. Covers animals and opposites. There is a lot on each page and it can be overwhelming for some children who need just one or a few pictures on a page. A great seek and find book for kids too.

Love the Usborne First Thousand Words Series
I love Usborne books for teaching beginner foreign language students. Although there are a few words that don't jive with what English speakers where I live in the United States (New England), this is an excellent resource for ESL students of any age. Some examples of words used that would be different in New England are hens vs. chickens, sofa vs. couch, coin purse vs. change purse, chest of drawers vs. dresser, baby buggy vs. baby carriage, sandpit vs. sand box, railway cars vs. railroad cars, walking stick vs. cane, grocery sack vs. grocery bag, tummy vs. stomach, mail carrier vs. mailman.

My Students Love This Book
I'm a teacher of English in a private institute in Korea, and this book is doing just what I thought it would: giving my 7- to 13-year-old students a chance to see and find all kinds of everyday objects in delightful picture settings while exposing them casually and naturally to the English language. I've always maintained that acquisition of a mental library of nouns is a key factor in retention of sentence structure in any language. So, thanks for the great book. It gets a lot of use.

Artwork instantly draws in children and parents.
As a former teacher on the early childhood and early elementary levels I found that most children werequickly engrossed in this book. The book can be used for identification, labeling and counting and provides lots of material for child-adult interaction.
