The Dinner Plate Dahlia Emory Paul, 'Dahlia Emory Paul', produces a orchid lavender flower. It is the largest we've ever seen! Marvel at the size and color of our "dinnerplate dahlias"! Truly as big as a dinner plate, these specially-selected prize-winning size dahlias are the most spectacular we've ever offered. A single stem will make a statement and you'll find your-self cutting and sharing these fall beauties with friends. They are hardy in zones 8-10; elsewhere dig and store in frost-free area. Please note that pinching of the secondary buds will produce even larger flowers. They produce new flowers all summer so you can enjoy them both outdoors and indoors as cut flowers. Native to Mexico and Central America, dahlias provide us with more pleasure than almost any other summer bulb we have because they produce an abundance of wonderful flowers perfect for 'gift giving flower arrangements' throughout early summer and again in late summer until frost. Especially if they are picked for arrangements, these 'cut and come again' plants require almost no care, they appear to be pest resistant and they come in a myriad of colors. Plant in full sun or partial shade. Dahlias have different shapes from the tightly formed flowers of the pompom-types to the looser ones of the cactus-types and the decorative in-between types, they're all terrific!

See bottom for latest update*So far only one out of the two tubers i planted is growing, but it's growing like a weed. Still too early for flowers, but i can only imagine they'll be beautiful. I'll update with pictures later in the summer.Update: (7/8/2016)The company contacted me about my review and has sent me a replacement emory paul dahlia tuber. ☺ It speaks volumes that a company will take the time to ensure each of their customers are happy with their products.Last Update (3/10/2017)I simply cannot wait until summer so i can see my beautiful (gigantic) Emory Paul Dahlia's bloom again. These flowers got bigger than my head! They were magnificent. I live in northern Washington so I have to dig up the tubers to keep them safe in the winter and let me tell you the tuber i dug up was easily 15X the size of the one I planted! These are beautiful and amazing! If you're thinking of buying it. Do it!Plant got taller than 5'3". Plant with room to spare around the area you plant. This thing gets big!!

Dried up and damaged bulbs.
One of the bulbs was dead and completely rotted away inside. The other bulb had many pieces broken off of it. The center showed signs growth so I planted it. Not expecting a full size plant though due to the damage to the bulb.

I cannot say enough about these beautiful flowers, other than that I am enjoying armfuls of gorgeous, giant flowers on a constant basis. And this is without following the instructions to pinch off the first buds. It was a little slow to start out, likely because of an unusually hot and dry summer here on Long Island, but it's been producing like crazy since the end of August. The picture shows what I have been regularly getting. Mind you, I am not holding that flower forward. It really is bigger than my head.

Bulbs didn’t grow
I purchased 2 orders and out of 4 bulbs, only 2 actually grew but not to a mature plant and still no signs of flowers.

Disappointed
Only one came up and that one had a 10 inch growth to contend with but it did survive. Disappointed

I am impressed!! Being a landscaper I was skeptical. I also bought late in the season when you get the last of the pick. They were healthy, acceptable size with active sprouts. At half cost.
