Works out to atleast 145' vertically. If you're an iaste rigger and can't afford the pls-3 this is what you're looking for

Works great.
I've used this indoors and outdoors in shade and it is accurate and bright. No problems seeing the dots, and the calibration was spot-on as delivered, no adjustments needed. Have already used it more than I thought!

Five points and a versatile base
Bosch makes a number of units with different capabilities. This one projects five points. Unlike the Bosch GCL25 you don't get full cross lines, so if you want something more versatile, you'd have to step up to something more expensive. The unit is self leveling, similar to others with a pendulum design. You simply wait until the dots stay still. The unit comes calibrated, but also has complete calibration instructions and two calibration screws so you can verify its correctness first and adjust if needed. Five points give you the ability transfer points, level, square, and grade. It's easy to mark a point on the floor and find the exact spot on the ceiling above, which can be handy for everything from lighting, including lighting above specific items such as islands in kitchens, to sound systems or anything else you can lay out. I was able to check some of the doorways in my home and it became clear that the builders did not use one of these. Having points in several directions can do far more than a conventional level can. That makes it good for putting up walls, mounting cabinets, and a great deal more. One of the biggest advantages of this is the base. It has a tripod mount, but it can sit on objects. When mounted on a tripod, the device can rotate relative to the base, but even with the base aligned with the unit, it can still project downwards. The base has vertical and horizontal slots, so it can be strapped to items in either orientation. It has two holes for long drywall screws. The part where the screws go is offset on one side of the base, so you have the option of having it flush with the wall or attached with a slight offset. And it has magnets on both the side and bottom for use with metal studs or anything a magnet will stick to.The tool comes with a hard carrying case, although at the time I wrote this the system said it came with a soft pouch. The case is at least twice as big as it needs to be, and has a recess for other things but I couldn't figure out what Bosch had in mind. They do list optional accessories, such as laser viewing glasses, that would fit. The other accessory that they mention is the measurement plate with stand and I can't find information about it anywhere. The dots are quite bright and should be no problem to see indoors. They are also bright enough to see outdoors in certain lighting conditions, so while I can't guarantee that conditions will be right for putting up a fence, it's something I had no problem with from 20 feet away on a sunny day at 3pm in an area where trees blocked direct sunlight. If I had to buy just one tool for this type of work, it would be the GCL25, but as a strict five point alignment laser, this does the job very well.

Disappointed because holding up project
Item will not self level, so Lazer continues to flash. Brand new. Disappointed for sure. Thought this would be a great tool for figuring out pendant light mounting location, but I can't get it to auto level. Even sat it on a level surface and still no solid light. Frustrating

Description not accurate
One main thing I liked about this product was that it came with a hard case (as stated in the description of what’s included). Received gpl-5 today, comes with a soft belt pouch.VERY DISAPPOINTED

not worth buying
dim laser, even with three new batteries. we were trying to determine a point on the floor in relation to that point 20' up on the corrugated deck. couldn't see the dot. it's supposed to be good for 100' but couldn't even shine 20 feet. can I make it half a star?
