Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico. The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches. The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality. One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you. See more

It's just a plain old clip-on digital pedometer that works reliably.
This is a fairly simple device that does just what it is supposed to do. There are only two annoying things that will happen to it if you use it long enough: the battery will eventually die (it can be replaced) and the clip will eventually break. This is still a really good pedometer.

Junk.
No shut off. Runs until battery dies. Great engineering....

Takes a Licking And Keeps On Ticking
Hi: I had my daughter order me this pedometer. The best one I ever used in the last 20 yrs. it's the most easiest pedometer to set up. The only complaint I have with it is the clip broke off after a year. So instead of tossing the thing in the garbage I used my imagination. I took a piece of cotton material and hand sewn a pouch for the pedometer. I measured it so the pedometer would fit tight in the pouch. Then I hand sewn a strip of Velcro on the flap to keep the pedometer from falling out. then I took a chip clip. hand sewn the chip clip on the back side of the pouch. I loop stitched it several times where the spring is and also sewn it about an 3/4 of an inch from the tip of the chip clip. My little invention work 100%. it still keeps the normal accuracy of it. And matter of fact it stays on my pants better then the manufactured clip they had on it. it doesn't move at all. I had pedometer from sport line company 7 they all suck. They are the worst ones to use for accuracy and their clips break off sooner. A person doesn't need all that high technology BS with a pedometer. All you need is the mileage and calorie count on them. I walk between 5 1/2 to 6 miles twice a day. I am 59 yrs. old. I have my health problems but by walking it keeps me going. I have my daughter order me a lot of things from amazon.com. Best company out there to order things from and cheaper. People why throw this pedometer out when the clip breaks off. Take the time and do what I done. Unless you got money to burn. I don't. Thanks for reading this review. Timex has great products. I had a regular wrist watch for years. Timex products takes a licking and keeps on ticking. holds up to their commercials they use to have on TV. Keep on doing the good work Timex company. And also Amazon. Ginny From Roscommon Michigan

Not that great.
Does not do a good job keeping track of anything. Another reviewer said it has to be lined up with your hip in order to track your steps or distance. I've tried different ways and it rarely tracks accurately.

Works well and great for the low price
When I first got the unit the display numbers were faint and then they just disappeared. The battery needed immediate replacement and now the unit works well. Easy to clip onto clothes so it doesn't fall off.

Great for knowing how far you've gone in a day!
This is my second pedometer and I'm very happy with it. It's super easy to use. You set your stride length and your weight ... and away you go. It's amazingly accurate as far as being able to calculate distance ... and therefore I trust that the number of steps and calories it calculates must also be accurate. It's fun to know where you stand at the end of the day ... I mean ... who knew that clogging for 2 hours takes 10,000 steps!!! And that just putzing around the house all day takes 2,000 steps ... If you want to do the 10,000 steps per day recommendation, you need one of these. I always thought that walking around the neighborhood every day was good enough ... and it was a revelation to know that I wasn't taking nearly as many steps as I thought!!

Noisy and not reliable.
There is a weight gadget inside the mechanism that is quite noisy everytime you walk. I get the reasoning why it had to be there but it is quite noisy as you're walking which is quite annoying when you're in a business office. The other issue is that I find it unreliable as I would walk from one spot to a table and it registered 88 steps and it literally was only four or five steps.

Battery was dead within 2 days
I bought this pedometer because it is a Timex and my thinking was it would be of great quality. I received the unit and within two days, the battery was dead. I am not sure how long it sat on the shelf before being sold but apparently, it was awhile.

Great little pedometer.
First I bought a very inexpensive pedometer and should have known better. It was garbage and I threw it away. I've always trusted Timex and had several of their watches over the years, so thought I'd try this and so far I'm extremely pleased. If you measure your strides exactly and then set them under distance, it measures very close. I've done several tests of walking 100 steps and then seeing what the pedometer reads and it is quite accurate. It is a tiny bit difficult to figure out how to set it for the first time, however, once you've done it the next time is a breeze. Although once it is properly set, there won't be much need to reset it. I very much like the fact that it closes so you can't hit any buttons accidently. So far the little clip is working very well. It is quite tight so it stays on without coming loose or falling off. It tells you number of steps, the distance you've gone and it counts calories, which is a feature I wanted. As far as I'm concerned it is a great little pedometer for the price............as Timex always said: "It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin".

Cannot change distance and calorie settings.
Worked for about three months. Could not change distance or calorie settings, making all of the readings incorrect.
