The Walking Dead: Season 3

I came to The Walking Dead late - as in, only a month ago. Since then, my son and I watched the first two series on Netflix, then ordered the third season on Blu-Ray via Amazon since it isn't available on Netflix yet. What can I say about this series? It's pretty much pitch perfect, IMO. I have watched pretty much every Romero "Living Dead" movie, every Resident Evil movie, and played many video games that feature the zombie apocalypse or some variation thereof. This series draws from each of those (my son and I had fun during the first season, pointing out the inspiration for certain scenes, set pieces and motifs), but it really takes the genre into new territory. I'm only up to episode 4 of season 3 so far, but every episode since the first one of the first season has moved the plot forward, developed the relationship between the characters, and taken a new twist on the zombie apocalypse idea that makes you both squirm and applaud the writers. Every actor so far seems believable and true to their character. But the characters are not static - they change in believable ways as the story line moves forward. The young boy, for instance, who seemed rather annoying for a while, seems to be growing into a strong, hardened force of his own in a manner similar to the development of Anakin Skywalker - hopefully he'll turn out better, but either way it makes for engaging viewing. Every other character gets their chance to add something to the story as well. The effects are terrific and modern, without looking particularly CGI (with the exception of one building explosion in Season 2). It takes a lot for me to become emotionally invested in a horror film, having seen hundreds since the 1970's, but this series has me on the edge of my seat nearly every episode. Can't wait to finish season 3 and see what they come up with for season 4. So far, IMO, this project is a genuine masterpiece on both a dramatic level and a horror/action level.

I've been watching the Walking Dead since it first came out and have really become a great fan of the series. What sounds like a run of the mill zombie movie turns out to be a show focused on human drama. While there is plenty of gore what really sets this show apart from most any zombie movies in the past is that you really get to know the characters and feel for them. Which brings me to Season 3! The first season was pretty exciting, the second season was fun but somewhat dull at times, this season brought a whole new load of trouble and development into the show. I don't want to post any spoilers but it was definitely an intense season. One of the funnest parts for me was going from liking the Governor at first to hating him and eventually really loving his character and development. I don't know how such a man became one of my favorite characters in the show. This limited edition box set featuring the Governor's floating zombie head fishtanks was more than enough to make me empty my wallet. The quality is really good and feels very solid. The outer shell is plastic but looks like an old piece of 90s wooden furniture. Which definitely fits the fill of the Governor's lair in the show. The fish tanks feel and look as if they could be used for actual fish. The zombie heads inside are very nice quality as well, they feel like some sort of ceramic material, but are very detailed and well made. The only real complaint is that the lights don't look nearly as awesome as they do in the picture. Maybe if I filled them with water it would have that effect...But I don't want to risk damaging the ceramic heads, the box, the blu-ray disks, and the shelf with all my other movies on it. Overall it is an awesome limited edition set. If you're a fan of the Governor's terror and character I'd say this set will make you extremely happy. If you're not really a huge fan of the Governor maybe it's not for you.

ordered this from amazon in july, had to pay custom charges on this like on the other series 1/and 2 that i bought as well, however it arrived on saturday, via an extra cost to me. Anyway, on to the review, the box it's self is smaller than the series 2 rv zombie head version, it has great artwork on the box. The fish tank is pretty good as a visual piece, the zombie heads are quite large to the tank, they appear to be about the same size as the large 12 inch gi joe figures, an sport various sides of decay, overall it is quite a nice piece, a neat feture is the light up feature, with the hidden button on the front. one thing though the season 3 case will fit in the back of the tank but is a little tight when you want to remove it. The blu ray case has a nice soft feel to it, and is also plenty of character shots both inside and out of it. You also get the mannual for the fishtank, ie on/off button and battery info, the booklet has lots of cool details of future walking dead items from avatar items to card games. Overall i'm am very pleased with this style and package, not so with the custom charge, however i have watched and enjoyed both series 1/2 and currently watching series 3. Though limited and expensive, fans of the series will like or at least enjoy this edition. over the standard editions. this is a great series, and will cotinue to watch, and buy series 4, whatever variant that is as and when. whichever version you go for, this is a great series, as you feel for the characters, rick, with the loss of his wife and looking after the group, and the threats from the governor, and both human and constant zombie threats, in each episode, which leaves you wanting to know what will happen next, episode by episode, season by season, and ultimatley how will it end, and where will the story go, and what will happen to them, in the future?

The Walking Dead is one of my favourite show on television right now. Sure, the second season meandered for a bit, but when the action and drama picks up it's nothing short of genius. Season 3, on the other hand, is absolutely amazing. Through the introduction of The Governor, Rick and crew face what could be their worst nightmare yet - and the resulting conflict is great. The acting is top notch, and the writing hits some very emotional moments that no doubt make it worth the price of admission. Similarly, the limited edition display case that the season box set comes in is perhaps one of the coolest and best designed special edition collectibles I've ever seen. I can't say I'm surprised though, since it's designed by MacFarlane toys, who do incredible work. The limited edition case (made to look like The Governor's fish tank of zombie heads seen in the season) makes a great addition to any collector's shelf, and is perhaps one of my favourite limited editions I've purchased to date. Highly, highly recommended.

Spedizione sempre puntuale. Che dire, The Walking Dead è una delle serie tv più emozionanti degli ultimi tempi. La qualità grafica è decisamente migliorata rispetto alle precedenti. Come avevo sentito, questa terza stagione prende una svolta diversa dalle precedenti. Adesso oltre agli zombie il nemico reale sono gli umani. I colpi di scena non mancano mai, e per questo ogni episodio lo si guarda con ansia e angoscia. Devo dire che un personaggio ( non dico quale per evitare spoiler ), da che prima era coraggioso, adesso lo hanno reso insicuro e a tratti stupido. Il finale di stagione a dirla tutta non lascia tanta suspense, ma è comunque emozionante. Consigliatissimo a tutti.

Todavía no la he terminado pero la serie tiene una pintaba pero sobre todo me fijo en la edición que esta gente ha hecho, todo el pack de los discos a el interior con su diseño y demás hace que de gusto ponerse a ver la serie en HD 1080 sin anuncios y sin nada que perturbe la experiencia al contrario que ocurre con visionados normales en canales y demás, eso si, lo que no me gusta es esa manía de las temporadas, se supone que a lo mejor no has visto esta tercera y ya te promocionan la cuarta revelando cosas, así que tener cuidado si no queréis que se desvelen pequeños detalles que destripan la serie como hacen en TV.

By far the best work in the zombie genre. The Walking Dead season 3 is perhaps the best series to date. I've been watching The Walking Dead since the first season aired on Channel 5 here in the UK, and it has delivered what so many films have in my eyes failed to deliver. Before I watched season 2 I bought a load of the comics to get me up to speed with Robert Kirkman's work. As you can expect there are many differences between the comics and the TV series, but unlike some people who love the comics, I love BOTH the comics and the TV series. Season 3 picks up about seven to eight months after Rick's group were driven from Hershel Greene's farm, which happened at the end of season 2. During all this time some of the characters have changed. Carl is now a proficient shot, fearlessly killing Walkers when he confronts them; Carol has, in a way similar to Andrea back in season 2, gone from scared victim to determined survivor (a scene later on in the series shows her slicing up a Walker, which the old Carol of seasons 1 and 2 never did); Daryl is now more of a team player working with Rick and the others, rather than squaring up to folk like he has done in previous series; and Rick has become a bit more cold in how he does things. The group have survived winter moving from one place to the next when they stumble upon a sanctuary in the form of a prison, which Rick sees as a defensible spot to call home, so decides to move in, although the resident Walkers make the job a lot harder. Meanwhile, Andrea (who the group thought had died last season) has been surviving with the sword wielding Michonne, a woman of few words, who has kept herself (and Andrea) alive with her sword skills, her instincts, and a pair of armless Walkers that she kept chained up. They are roaming the countryside when a helicopter crashes not far from them, and this leads them into meeting a man called the Governor, a charismatic man who leads the town of Woodbury, and has about seventy or so people to look after. He takes Andrea and Michonne in, but underneath the charm lies a sinister man who you could say is on something of a power trip. This season is more action packed than the first two, with plenty of Walkers getting bashed, shot, decapitated and stomped. The second half of season 3 does slow down with the zombie killing a bit, and indeed the action slows as well. Quite a few people have not been impressed with this season because of the second half not having enough action, with most of those complaints about the season finale, which wasn't as action packed as the season 2 finale. I can see where these complaints are coming from, and The Walking Dead could indeed do with a lot more action here and there. But a lot of people are forgetting one very important thing; The Walking Dead is not just an action adventure series, it is also a drama. I like watching zombies getting killed just as much as most fans, but what makes this series (both the comics and the TV series) worthwhile is the human side of things. The Walking Dead shows us how the people deal with life in this new, horrible world where you don't know if you'll live to see tomorrow or if you'll die. It shows us a portrayal of life in an apocalyptic world that we can only really imagine, showing us how people react to the changes made in this world, from how people look upon the past, to how people react after a friend's untimely (and often brutal) death. We see how people cope and change throughout this entire show, from the very first episode of season 1 all the way through to season 3. We see love, betrayal, friendship, hatred, fear, grief, courage, determination, and loyalty. There are examples of these qualities throughout the show. We see how someone cracks from the strain of this world after they loose someone dear to them, and how they pull back from the brink of madness when things start to get hairy. We see a friendship put under strain between two men due to the brother of one putting other people in danger. We see a young mind adapting to the brutal world to the point where they believe in some situations that murder is the only way to keep the people you care about safe (and how that person defends their action shows how cold they are becoming). This is one of the best TV dramas out there just now. Whilst not 100 per cent faithful to the comics, it still tells the story in a brilliant way. With season 4 starting very soon, I am eager to see where The Walking Dead is going with Rick and his group.

Ich bin kein großer Horror Fan, vor allem weil die Storys im Horror Genre fast ausschließlich Platt und Sinn frei sind, ich denke dabei zb. an die Halloween Reihe deren Soundtrack dabei noch das beste ist oder Freitag der 13. und eben andere. Mit TWD so scheint es mir, wollte die Produktions Crew wohl so Realistisch wie möglich sein und wie viele Fans und echte Kritiker schreiben es sogar geschafft haben, das bei einer Zombieapokalypse die Zombies eher Nebensache sind und es eher auf die Überlebenden ankommt. Wie sich Menschen eben so verhalten. Es zeigt das es auf das Innere Wesen der Überlebenden ankommt, jeder hat Verluste zu beklagen. Entweder man überwindet dies und bleibt sich treu (normal) oder wie zb. der Governor, der durch seine Verluste und die Erlebnisse zum Monster oder Psycho wurde. Wobei man im nachhinein anmerken muss, wer weis schon ob man sich bei Verlusten nicht auch ins Negative verändern würde, und um zu überleben alles tun würde auch eben jeden zu töten der einen Apfel hat. Typisch für die Menschlichen Abgründe fand ich in der 2. Staffel als nach dem Darryl mit dem Verhören des Gefangenen Jungen fertig war, die Rede war von einer ganzen Bande, die Rick und die anderen Männer töten würden und die Frauen sich wünschen würden sie währen es auch (Gruppenvergewaltigung). Deshalb finde ich TWD so verdammt realistisch, man müsste sich eben nicht nur um die Untoten sorgen, sondern im Prinzip könnte man gar niemandem mehr trauen. Ist man im Grunde ein schlechter Mensch, ist so eine Apokalypse quasi die Ideale Zeit um machen zu können was man möchte, Gesetze gibts ja keine mehr. Wenige Negativ Punkte gibts allerdings auch. Trotz allem realistischen Verhalten, der Charaktere fand ich es zb. übelst egoistisch und dämlich was zwischen Lori und Shane und dann noch mit Rick in der 1. Staffel abging und das ging bestimmt nicht nur mir so. Wenn die Apokalypse ausgebrochen ist, in diesem Fall eben Zombies, das Leben wie man es eben kennt gibts nicht mehr, das an was ich als letztes denken würde währe wohl ungeschützten Verkehr zu haben oder überhaupt an Sex zu denken, deshalb konnte ich Lori offen gestanden von Anfang an nicht leiden, noch weniger als sie Glen erst wegschickt damit er ihr Antibaby Pillen besorgt und sie dann wieder heraus bricht, oder sich Rick erklärt mit nem Spruch wie "ich wollte wieder was fühlen". Ich dachte bloß, schon mal was von "Handarbeit" gehört. Aber die Produzenten dachten sich wohl was dabei. Desweiteren was den Kampf gegen die Zombies angeht. Man konnte feststellen, das die Knochen der Zombies nicht sehr stabil sind, zb. der Schädelknochen der der stabilste von allen ist, lässt sich mit einem Tritt platt machen. Ich denke mit ner scharfen Machete oder einer begradigten Sense oder ähnlichem könnte man im Alleingang Zombies Dutzendfach umlegen. Außer die Zombies sind aus World War Z und rennen mit 80 km/h durch die Gegend. Was ebenso ärgerlich ist, wenn man schon hinter eigentlich sicherem Zaun lebt wie schwer kann es sein die Zombies auf der anderen Seite einfach ALLESAMT ab zustechen. Die Serie ist schon richtig geil, ist jedoch für mich fraglich, ob ich mich einer Gruppe anschließen würde oder ob ich nicht eher nur bei meiner Familie bleiben würde oder im Falle deren Verlusts mich allein durchschlagen würde. Sollte man einer Gruppe begegnen, weis man ja nicht ob die Typen zurechnungsfähig sind oder nicht. Ich hab die ausgestrahlten 8 Folgen der 4. Staffel gesehen, im Februar 2014 gehts weiter. Mal sehen was den Produzenten noch einfällt, viel dramatischer kann es ja kaum noch werden. Die 2. Staffel gefällt mir irgendwie noch am besten.
