Color Oxford Thesaurus 3rd Edition

I really liked this pocket sized thesaurus since there are many short and easy to grasp definitions as well as alot of synonyms and antonyms at the end. A very valuable resource. A very good investment.

I purchased this portable thesaurus recently and I've grown to like it. It's small enough to fit in the glove compartment of your car, briefcase or purse. What's unique about this little book is that it includes nearly 30,000 headwords...a neat feat considering it boasts 140,000 synonyms . I've seen thesauruses boasting a higher synonym count but offering only a minuscule number of headwords. This is important because when looking up a synonym with no cross index in the back you need to be reasonably sure the word you want to find is listed in alphabetical order.I tried looking up "incumbent" but it wasn't listed. Luckily for me I remembered a different synonym for incumbent and looked at "important" instead. Keep in mind the Color Oxford Thesaurus is not a substitute for a full fledged thesaurus like the Oxford American Writer's Thesaurus which has a far higher headword count and a vastly superior number of synonyms to peruse. Other than this small drawback the Color Oxford Thesaurus is an excellent purchase and the paper quality is superb...acid free and font size just right for quickly reading words without eye strain.
