Not as good as I hoped
Imogen, Debby and Rita are three young girls that are in need of a place to stay when they come to the country. They are in luck when they are taken in by "Auntie" and her niece Jill who own and run a local pub. For a while life is good but soon the stress of the war and personal issues begin to take there and soon the girls go off in different directions. But may be a reunion 15 years after the war ends is just what they all need."Time to Say Goodbye" Katie Flynn was an okay book. I have to admit to me it was not one of her better books. For some reason I just could not connect to any of the characters and I found myself struggling to finish the book. Overall "Time to Say Goodbye" was an okay book but not one of Ms. Flynn's better ones.

Plods and rambles
This had the makings of a good story line. But it takes SO long to get where it's going.I kept getting bored; having to force myself on to the end. Too much wittering. But that could just be the nature of young girls who are at the heart of the story. If this had been around half the length it might have worked? Not one of Katie's best IMHO. But - that is the nature of writing; few can score 5 all the time

A very slow start, slow paced book
Somehow I couldn't get through it. I tried several times but ended up reading only a quarter of it. I couldn't keep the three girls straight for a starter. And there didn't seem to be much story. It really dragged, with lots of detail about everyday life. I checked the end, and perhaps if some of what the book was about had been revealed earlier, I think I would have persisted. The author is a careful writer and tried hard to give the reader the feel of life in wartime England. Perhaps that was my problem. Others may like the book, but I found it well written but terribly slow going.

Love it
Having read the one and two star reviews I have to give a fair warning: If you are looking for excitement, suspense or action... you won't find it here. This is a slice of life story; an attempt to make an accurate account of wartime Britain from the perspective of three normal innocent girls. Its slow, detailed and emotional.I love books like this and as such I was engrossed, but I can understand the negative reaction as it is a very long book to wade through if it wasn't your cup of tea to begin with.
