Great read, great photos.
Easily read history of the development of the M60 and it's many variations and improvements. Good background of the other weapons and statistics (carry weight, rate of fire, length) from which ideas were taken, some worked and others failed. Good photos and prints showing detail, tactics and a chapter of individual soldiers actions with the M60 in combat. Of interest, the sling that continued to be used on and issued with the M60 was from the M14 rifle which was from the M1 Garand developed in the late 1930's. The "pig" as it was called in Vietnam, was the great equalizer to bring to a gun fight.

Weapon book focused on the M60 machine gun used from the Vietnam War through Operation Desert Storm
The M60 machine is a medium machine gun used from the Vietnam War through Operation Desert Storm. This volume on provides a history of development, use of the weapon and its impact. Variants are listed and a comparison with later medium machine guns used by the Armed Forces of the USA is included in brief.I have over 500 Osprey titles and enjoy reading and benefit from the information contained in the volumes.

Well worth the price.
Enjoyable book to read. I was an M-60 gunner for over a year and I always wanted to know the the history behind the gun and its development. This book answered all the questions that Uncle Sam found unnecessary for me to know. Well worth the price.

Excellent work as usual by Mr. Dockery
Great book for anyone interested in the history of this gun. Like Mr. Dockery's previous works it's outstanding in every detail.

Nice book.
OK so this book is NOT an armorer's manual and probably doesn't need to be. I mean, I have books on how to operate, break down and clean, fix and shoot accurately an M1 Garand but lots of folks have M1 Garands. Not many folks have an M60...........! So, this book will appeal to collectors and enthusiasts especially those who love to collect and shoot military weapons, current varieties, C&Rs or "Modified to Semi-auto only" civilian versions of current military rifles like the AR.Plus this book will appeal to anyone who has in the past shot, carried, cared for, loved, hated or had their life saved by the "Pig". It really is still a great weapon. The 7.62 round made it a lot "badder" than anything using the 5.56! Lots of pics. Lots of history. I do wish it had more pics of "chopped" versions from the Vietnam-era SEALs. I'd buy the book again. I'd even buy an M60 except that they're really expensive and my wife wouldn't let me. And I'd have to move to another state. But someday...........gotta keep hoping!

Great book on the M60.
Kevin is a master of the firearm, and this book is a great one for M60 enthusiasts and owners, or those who carried it in the Armed Services.
