If you're planning to see the real thing - the opera, that is - it would be a good idea to know what the whole thing is about. Hence, this Kindle edition of Richard Wagner's 'The Flying Dutchman' will be a perfect introduction to the story as it provides the readers with a good English translation, the only flaw of which is the layout of the text, which could really use some editing.

Complete music on 2 cds, complete libretto, history of composer, history on this opera, historical performance notes...What else could you ask for for under $...! AND you end up getting so much more out of the performance when you know the story to the music. You spend less time reading the sub-title screen and more time enjoying the performance. (Not to mention you can be a "smarty pants" and share the operas history with other patrons.)I wish they had more than 14 operas in this collection. Also great for the opera collection is "The Book of 101 Opera Librettos" also by Black Dog.(About the story...Love forsaken, love found, love lost, love ultimately saves the day. This was supposed to be a digital copy of the Schirmer vocal score in German. What I received was an English libretto. This is an utter waste of money.

Did not include cd's.
